Like a lot of supporters I was disappointed that we played with only one out and out striker against Crawley .
With two new strikers on the bench and pushing Bennett into a more forward position, do we still need Tom Nichols in the squad, he had all last season to prove himself and he didn't there has not been a lot of improvement so far this season , although it is early doors. My worry is DC will carry on playing Nichols at he expense of our new strikers. The thing is we could have played another one of the new forwards last Saturday and like Payne he could have scored on his debut. it is unfair that new players who are rareing to go are stuck on the bench when a player who has clearly not proved himself over a whole season gets the nod in front of them. How many more goals would Telford have got last season if he had been given a proper chance?. I don't want to Knock Nichols but it might do him good to be loaned out, somewhere where he can build up his confidence, and prove himself.

Bernard Mensah never even made the bench on Tuesday - is he regarded as a striker?

I think DC is just wary of introducing too many new players at once. We have Upson, Rodman and Payne who all look likely to be regulars, plus Matthews who also looks likely to have his fair share of games. We’ll see more of Jakubiak and Reilly in due course. I know we have lost the first two games but there are plenty of positives if you’re inclined to look for them. I just wish we could be a bit less bipolar about players. Broadbent has seemingly gone from a player we’ll be lucky to keep hold of to one who’s nowhere near ready for league 1 if he’ll ever be, in the space of a couple of meaningless pre-season games. Keep the faith in our talented players. If they have a bad game, even a bad run of games, we need to support them through it and not just immediately write them off.

At the same time Reilly and Jakubiak can get a chance of first team minutes.

I think Nichols would do well on loan at Exeter, and they would be glad to have him back. I thought DC's attitude to Telford stunk last season, he deserved much more game time. ANd I bet that our Watford loanee wont have a lot either. We could have Harry Kane on loan and he would still pick the useless Nichols in front of him. Meanwhile lets go really bonkers and play Bennett up front

This is really the DC who heavily criticised John Ward for his style of play that you are talking about? The same one who is now playing the same style but not half as effectively. Basically the problem is and has been for a long time that DC does not deal with the straightforward problem which is the defence is not and has not for the past three seasons good enough and DC's answer is to make the rest of the team spend more time defending than attacking. As regards strikers you can NEVER have enough strikers in your squad and we only really have four and only need a couple of injuries and we would be criticising any striker sent out on loan. Our problem is we have too many defendedr who are not up to the required standard.
