One man's meat. This is relegation form. The seasons only just started! Fortunately and we have time to turn it around.

6 for Smith. What game were you watching?
Poor kicking, hesitant off his line, arguably couldn’t do anything about the first goal but the second is awful keeping.

I didn't see a good performance last night, certainly not as a team. As a unit it all looks disjointed and the unity of team spirit we have often seen under DC is not always there. Individually the new acquisitions look promising but partnerships need forming, patterns of play need developing and the whole thing needs moulding into a proper team, not just how we are with the ball but also how we set up without it. We also lack genuine left side width and I hope we see Holmes-Dennis sooner rather than later plus Sam Matthews on the left. All possession on the left in the oppo half was cutting in on right feet and not stretching the Pompey defence. Cutting in liked that let's the opposition back line off the hook, both ball and marker all fall in the line of sight and the back line can get tighter, using width does the opposite. Pompey were the opposition, solid and organised with and without the ball, just what you expect from a Kenny Jackett side. They will be up there cone May. DC and staff have work to do on the training ground to mound this lot into a team. I can see fans are going to have to be patient while coaching staff get to work, because this looks to me like something that will be a work in progress for some time. I can understand that and I certainly felt the same for the first half but from the start of the second half up until the silly sending off we looked pretty good. Poor defending again cost us a point.

(4) Smith - Very indecisive and poor distribution. (6) Leadbitter - Good going forward but not as strong in defence. (8) Clarke J - Strong, committed performance. Full of energy. (6) Lockyer - Slightly hesistant on the second goal, otherwise sound. (7) Craig - Fairly solid. (7) Sercombe - Good performance but could have done better with a couple of chances. (8) Bennett - Back on the wing and back to his best. However, missed our best chance in stoppage time. (6) Upson - Average. Not making too much impact. (8) Clarke O - Another all action display. One or two misplaced passes but generally very Good with and without the ball. (7) Payne - A real handful. (8) Nichols - Excellent. Keep up that level of play and the goals will come.
Overall a very good performance - probably our best of the season - and very unlucky not to get at least a point against a Pompey side that have a 100% record in the league. If we can continue to play to that level I think we'll win more games than we lose.
