Both looked good when they came on yesterday. High energy and looking to create opportunities. AJ took a booking as he tried to get the ball off the time wasting Southend player, good attitude.
Hopefully the pair will get a run of games now as Nicholl’s is surely done!

Isn’t it funny. I didn’t think they were any better or worse than Payne and Nichols. Mainly because they weren’t being given any service either.

They didn't create very much and didn't win as much in the air. As for the yellow card. I would rather see a yellow card for making a tackle than for silly games when the opposition is time wasting (the ref has to deal with that). Payne let their defender know he was there. If DC is trying to see who plays better with each other, it would have made more sense to make one sub at a time.

I actually thought Nichols had a good game yesterday. He faded a little but the service up to him was sh**. He was really unlucky with that shot that hit the crossbar. I would argue that he is in the best form he has been in since he has been at the club. I have been to the past 3 games and I can honestly say that Nichols has been unlucky not to score in each one of them!
That being said, I do also like AJ and Reilly. Jakubiak has a great first touch and Reilly will press and harass defenders into mistakes. None of those 3 oparticularly want long balls up to them, yet that still happened far too often for my liking.

I thought that AJ and Reilly were worse than Payne & Nicholls. Got in each others way a couple of times (not surprising). Not convinced on brief experience of both of them that they will make the League One grade. AJ looked lost at times although I thought that he was okish against Portsmouth. Time will tell but surprised that DC was not able to get in better quality even with little money. Neither big enough to do the Payne No 9 role.

There movement was very good but you could see their frustration at the failure of the rest to get the ball to them.

Nichols is never going to be given a chance now because too many people are looking at his past record rather than judging him on the here and now.

But surely it doesn't matter what anyone else other than the manager thinks? At what point do you hold your hands up and say this isn't working? If he is playing well and looking dangerous would he fit in a deeper role perhaps where Bennett is now playing, as he looks out of sorts? In my opinion DC spent too long worrying about strikers and neglected the goalie/ centre back/left back issues and that's why we are struggling All good teams are built on a solid back 5 and ours looks makeshift at best

It's time to give someone other than Nichols a chance now, he's had long enough.

Nicholl’s has 1 goal in 40 appearances! Time for Reilly , he might prove to be no better, but he can’t be any worse!
We’ll never know unless he gets a chance. How is Telfordgetting on this season?

Made me laugh when the crowd were chanting for the subs to be made, wouldn’t of made a difference if we had a prime Lambert and Hoskins up top, we created absolutely nothing.

I am really worried about our goal scoring potential at the moment. Our defense was cr*p last season but attacking wise, we were one of the better teams in the league and would often just out score the opposition. Looking at all three of our home league games, last season these were the types of games we were turning around in the second half and winning.
Payne isn't looking as good as his first couple of games. Soon people will be suggesting he is no better than Gafney was. Nichols is looking better but unless he scores a goal in the next few games his confidence will drop and it will be the same as last season for him.
Even though Sercombe is playing out of position he has had a fair few chances but he missed two easy chances in the week which is poor by his standards and he would have buried those last season.

I don't think he has scored for Bury yet? They are 19th on four points. Think he has only started in two of their five league games?

The truth is there is no combination that match Ellis and Gaffers.

Having any combination of Nichols, Payne, Reilly, etc is all well and good, but without the service from midfield, pointless.

The truth is there is no combination that match Ellis and Gaffers. Elilis and Gaffers hardly played together post January last season! DC's been lucky (or whatever term you want use) that when ever a goal scorer left another one stood up to the plate MT>BB>EH not sure we've got a player who can score 15+ goals in the squad this season. It's hard to believe how unlucky Nichols can be, he did everything right for his shot yesterday, found space, hit the shot first time and sweetly only to see if come back off the bar with the goalie well beaten. I'd be tempted for Tuesday to give Reilly a decent run out just to see if he can find the net when TN can't.

In all honesty I didn't think too much of either from their short cameos off the bench. Both ran and hustled about, and admittedly the lack of service didn't help, but neither have the presence of Payne or the movement of Nichols (don't @ me, he finds space - just doesn't know how to use it).
Basing this all off, what, 20 mins or something though so plenty of time to change that opinion. I'd still be starting the Payne/Nichols combo though personally.
