For Gods sake why are we surprised DC has been honest about the situation and WE HAVE NO MONEY. Martin has made plenty of appearances at various levels and may be a useful guy to have around for a few months.Direct your ire at our disingenuous owner

I’m looking at the positives here.
We’ve signed an out and out left back with tons of league experience. Apart from Kelly playing last night we have had to play others out of position. To me this can only be a good thing.
The only negative I would say is that DC knew our new left back wouldn’t be available for the start of the season so should have got a short term loan in before the start of the season.
Now all we need is a big hard no nonsense defender, doesn’t need to be one who can play it out from the back, just someone to do the dirty work and actually defend!

Personally I would have stuck with Kelly and tried for a centre back.
That said Joe Martin is a reliable full back with plenty of experience in league 1 and above. He wanted a move and was affordable. He won't add pace to the back-line but he does have a reasonable left foot.
Good luck Joe...do a job for us...

Bodin was a young, hungry & talented player who was injury prone. This guy is supposed to be in his prime but instead of being injury prone, can't get into a L2 team because he isn't good enough. This is only because Stevenage’s tunisian manager doesn’t rate him..... What does his nationality have to do with anything?

Presumably the medical team though Tareiq Holmes-Dennis would be fit sooner and it now sounds like his rehabilitation will be longer that the late September/ early October suggested by some. Or might be DC can't take the risk of waiting any longer given the poor start. Agree with you about priority being a central defender, seems Kelly did fine last night so I guess he's a bit watered-off.

Funny old world;
We needed a left back since Day 1 as DC seemed reluctant to try our only recognised LB Kelly. Kelly finally gets a chance and plays relatively well, then the next day we sign someone who can't get into a L2 side. Roll on January! (at least nobody will be buying our players this time)

So, Because we have "lost our way" that means it's rotten to the core? Um OK then.......
If we had won our first five games he wouldn’t be saying this. Form changes the opinions of owners massively, I’ve found lately. But we haven't and we weren't likely to from the moment we lost 4-0 to a team.from.the league below. When you lose as many games as we have and concede such idiotic goals as we have thoughts naturally turn to recruitment and tje fact that DC thought Craig Lockyer Menayese and Broadbent were enough just tells it's own story. Recruitment was not good enough for me in pre-season and I am being proved right as it stands so I am not changing my tune at all.

Recruitment was not good enough for me in pre-season and I am being proved right as it stands so I am not changing my tune at all. You're kind of proving my point here, most of our problems lie with the management staff and the playing squad, the quality of recruitment has little to do with the ownership as they said from the start that they were going to stick to our SCMP so we can be sustainable, Widdrington and DC were responsible in who we brought in. I'm not asking anyone to change their tune, it's just some comments are being unfairly directed to the board when they wouldn't have done if things were going well.

so he had no club when we got him ? Bodin was a young, hungry & talented player who was injury prone. This guy is supposed to be in his prime but instead of being injury prone, can't get into a L2 team because he isn't good enough. Ah phooey! There have been times in the last few seasons that Leads and Browner have been out of favour but if they'd then been loaned out then to a team in the League above they wouldn't have looked out of place. Let's judge him on what he does for us.

We were looking for a left back
And then we found a left back
And heaven knows we're miserable now

Bear in mind last season though when we started crap Bodin carried us until his injury then Harrison carried us in Bodin's absence. At the moment we have no marquee players left so this is the season I finally see us having the relegation battle we have managed to avoid under Dc's perennial awful start to the season. "As they will" - I see no evidence to be able to talk in absolute terms like that.

Just spoken to a mate whose a Stevenage season ticket holder amd well known within the club. The feeling is that Martins not got much heart for the game and is merely picking up his money. The manager asked him to find another club. Maybe a change of club, and manager, might proove beneficial. Can only hope.

Call me old fashioned but I don't give a monkeys where he's come from or what other fans wrote about him years ago. I'll judge him purely on what he does for us. Good luck Joe

He sounds like a steady if unspectacular signing and just what we want someone who normally plays in one position (not a new project every game player!!).
With Tom Lockyer involved with the Wales squad we will need cover at centre half and JC/TB alongside the experienced Tony Craig might actually turn out for the best.
Good Luck to him.
