Totally agree with the op. Its not about formations etc its about the players coming out and expressing themselves and us fans getting right behind them and giving vocal support to the cause. Looking through that list of managers especially post holloway is a stark reminder of just how much worse it can get.

Looking through that list of managers especially post holloway is a stark reminder of just how much worse it can get. I thought we were very vocal and supportive at Luton, I was a little horse afterwards. Against Coventry there was hardly any atmosphere especially when we were 3 up. But I agree with you about the players fronting up on game day, because at training they are apparently world beaters. For the record I am fully behind DC, I would just prefer us to play 442 though. One up front ain’t working. If you don’t score you don’t win, it impacts on crowds, money, progress , entertainment, morale , confidence ad infinitum. We need to play two upfront, to build an effective partnership, lessen the burden. Let’s get some width to attack the byline ,get the ball either behind the defenders early or pull back into the kill zone. Penetration in the final third, the middies also need to step up and deliver to our front line. I’d would rather lose 4:3 than 1:0 It’s far better to have 2 strikers scoring 10 each than one man getting 20. There’s a better chance of retaining both. Let’s not carry on with the same old sh1t , expecting a different outcome. Time for a change, we have nothing to lose because we are already heading for the drop. Now is the time to strap one on. UTG We don't have natural wingers who will attack the byline. Even fullbacks we probably only have Leads. That is not the sort of team we are. It is a mistake not having a natural winger in this team at all though, as it makes us a bit one dimensional. If you are defending against us, you know our "wide" players are going to want to cut inside. In the past our success under DC has been with one wide player that like to cut in and one with a bit more natural width I.e Bodin and Montano.

Not sure if he's injured or just dropped completely now from the PV match day squad.

True story....so I've been told
Port Vale v Lincoln
Lincoln missing the spine of their team with Akinde, Shackell and O'Connor all injured.
What does Danny Cowley do? He walks around the pitch at the away end and selects around half a dozen fans, I presume he recognises them.
He then takes them to one side and explains that today of all days, the team needs as much support, noise and encouragement as possible (I suppose that includes banging their annoying drum harder!)
Off went these chosen few, to spread the word among their various groups, almost disciple like
Did it ake any difference??
Well Lincoln won that game 6-2, first time they have scored 6 away goals since 1932

We all know what a massive game it is this weekend.

Right me fellow gasheads. The Oxford game is huge. We have a manager that a few are beginning to question but before this man came we had: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Bristol_Rovers_F.C._managersTrying to find a successful manager (other than trolls) during my lifetime is very tricky. Even “the great Holloway” failed with a embarrassing depth of striking options. No one is wrong to question the gaffer when it starts going wrong. There are decisions he’s made that my opinion is at odds with.. However, he’s a bloody legend at this club. He’s turned it around before and he can do it again. In my opinion this team isn’t a million miles away. If one of the strikers can hit some form, we’ll follow. We’re at a point where formation is almost irrelevant we need some confidence. This Saturday, let’s show why we’re the superior set of fans in Bristol. Wear blue, bring a mate, and vocally get behind the team. Oxford will bring numbers, and be up for the game as if it were a derby. Oxford games have always been hard fought affairs and I suspect Saturday to be the same. Encourage that mate who’s always been tempted to come along and get behind the group. Let’s buy into this game as a season changing moment. Give the players the best platform to play. Thought this needed a bump before the weekend.

Why are the likes of Oxford & Plymouth also struggling but Walsall doing OK?

We were a conference side in turmoil and he turned that around. I guess we’ll have to just keep supporting them and hope they can go on a run starting this weekend because I can’t see him getting sacked any time soon.

How we got into this position in the first place? - are you talking about how we got into league one? - out of the conference? Or the more convenient: - bad start to the season? If there’s an argument regarding DC it isn’t about the past, it’s about the future. Is he the man to take us forward? Yes, he so clearly is. Out of interest, say you were in charge of the next gaffer who’d you pick?

DC certainly makes it hard for himself as pretty much every season seems a struggle to start with, this current one must be the worst of the lot. Signings need to be done early from end June/July and he needs to get players in the right positions to suit his preferred formations
I do think DC has his work cut out for him this season, previous seasons I could see potential, certainly enough to think he could turn it around and he did. This season I don't see that and the football is dreadful.
Even the games we won we could easily has lost. I often check the opposition forums after we play them and I haven't seen any positive comments this season, which is unheard of usually for a DC side.
I said on here before the first game of the season that for the first time ever I wasn't looking forward to this season, and unfortunately so far that has continued.
I think DC has earned time to rectify this, even if it means getting relegated, but if not the results, the performances HAVE to improve fast to keep the fans interested.

I think the difference is: Previous league one seasons we’ve had an attack that could score but a defence that was generally leaky. The potential is “easier” to see when we score goals. This season, we’ve got a fairly solid defence but are struggling higher up the pitch. I see the potential is still there and if anything it’s greater. DC teams usually start scoring at some point. But admittedly it’s uglier.

I agree, I also said not too long ago I couldn't see where the next win was coming from, I could have easily replace 'win' with 'goal'.
BUT past seasons I could see come pattern in play before even when the results were not forthcoming. This season the players seem to be out of position, not looking for the ball, not knowing what to do with the ball or unable to pass to their own teammate 10 yards away.
Is letting in a goal a game solid? I have seen some incredible goalkeeping and terrible opposition finishing that has kept that total below 20 and we always look suspect at the back especially vs pace.
vs Burton we had to wait almost an hour before the first shot in anger......at home. If you struggle at home then you really do have issues.

I’d argue it’s solid defending based on the number attacks currently being defended. Good keeping is part of it.

I've given my opinion many times that I don't think ANY of our defence are good enough to challenge the top of L1. I would have completely cleared them all out (if possible) in the summer and built a new defence.
I don't lay all blame on the defence though, you can see gaps all over the pitch where we let the opposition do as they please. There is no urgency, no threat and (unforgivably) no fight. It's very rare any of our players look or make space to receive the ball and so its lumped long every time.
DC normally turns it around but he usually has good home form to build from, and as that is poor (ironically even with a new pitch he requested!!) maybe it will be too much this time.
