Don't really have a problem with it personally. My view is that he loves this club first and foremost and would relish the opportunity to try and get us into the Championship. Plenty of folk don't believe him and we're all entitled to our views on that. I'm not sure what he was meant to say at the other clubs he's managed though - "jeez I really like this club but actually I still want to be managing the gas". I'm sure that would have made him hugely popular. All I can see is that he gives his all wherever he goes but ultimately he grew up supporting, playing for and then managing his boyhood club. Not sure why people get so worked up about what he's said or done elsewhere to get by. People still paint him as the local boy done good but everytime he opens his mouth he diminishes his affiliation with Bristol Rovers. He's very complimentary about City, saying he hopes QPR win, tangerine ties, all the stuff about bleeding green and white...he is a washed up run of the mill manager who will say anything to anyone to tout himself for a job. He has no pride or scruples left- he just wants another job. In fact who is Ian Holloway? Who does he support? What does he stand for? I don't think even he knows any more. By way of contrast I couldn't see Clarkey touting himself for jobs in a way that is so disregarding of his affiliation with Bristol Rovers. Clarkey is more of a Rovers legend than Holloway as a manager could ever hope to be. I love DC but if you think he's going to bleed blue and white forever I think you're going to be very much disappointed. I'm sure he will always remember the gas with affection but when he's pulling up trees at another club I suspect he'll be making a song and dance about his new club rather than Bristol Rovers. Just like Ollie did. And whilst DC's bleeding green/red/black/purple/mauve and his new team are playing against the teds I'm sure he'll be very complimentary about them in the press. Just like Ollie was. It's just the game they have to play.

Quite frankly Holloway is difficult to take seriously. He actually sounded disappointed when he said he didn't get an interview.
Those of us who were at jury's Hotel, or whatever it's called these days for his dinner evening hosted by GT wouldn't have been.
He quite disgracefully used the occasion to criticise the owners and BOD over the sacking of Ian Holtby.
What kind of a working relationship he imagined he'd have with the BOD one can only speculate.

Anyone who doubts Ollie's gas credentials is talking sh1t and has never met him.
All those who talk cr*p about his personal affection for the club are a source of some unhappiness for him.

Much like you use every oppertunity to criticise Ollie. And also in reply to LJ Hashead. I was at a jury's and witnessed Holloway's criticism of the owners and BOD of BRFC oner something that was none of his business. It was cheap and disgraceful This is the player who despite all the chest thumping, badge kissing City baiting RTID sh1t, twice walked out on the club when something better came along and who, as the manager, asked to be sacked(As confirmed by Geoff Dunford) so he could get his payoff, then immediately joined QPR as their manager. This is the player who as manager will bleed either blue, Green and white or tangerine blood when he's cut, but curiously prefers QPR to win a match against the Gas, even though he's made a career out of being a professional Bristolian which has resulted in the rest of the country thinking that Bristolian are gurning, corn-chewing simpletons. I suggest you look up the definition of die-hard, martyr and any other of the ridiculous superlatives used to describe Holloway, then compare then with Charlatan. Fxxx me!

Though in all honesty your hateful bile filled rant doesn't deserve a reply. I only have one definition for Holloway which is Legend. However I am struggling to find a word to describe a person who pays to see someone they have such a low regard for.

Holloway is a Gas legend, to say anything else just shows ignorance.
Has he made mistakes, no doubt. Does his mouth and passion sometimes get him in trouble, of course it does.
But, if people on this thread were being held to the same standard of scrutiny they are applying then boy would they fall far short of the legend that is Ian Holloway!

Quality player for us who always gave his all and went on to captain QPR to the top four of the premier league. I don’t really care much about the badge kissing , cut him open he’s blue and white malarkey to be honest it’s what they do on the pitch that counts for me and Olly is a legend for what he did.

I don't hate Holloway, I just don't think he is the God-like deity you seem to think he is. Are any of the things that I have said untrue? I don't think so. He was a professional footballer who followed the money. Big deal, they all do it and he's no exception. What I took exception to was his tub-thumping bull. Rovers till I die etc etc, until a better offer comes along. As as a manager he engineered his exit for 2 reasons. It was all going wrong with us and he had a better offer so he went. Fine, but spare all the Bristolian bull, and the crap about bleeding the colour of the club he's currently managing. I could pick a word to describe you, as you seem to want to get personal. The word is Gull. You've fallen for his bollox; hook, line and sinker.

Oh and by the way. You want to talk about Rovers legends? Try Geoff Bradford or Stuart Taylor.
As far as legends are concerned, Holloway The Chancer isn't fit to lace their boots.

A bit disrespectful to a man who won promotion to the 2nd tier as a player and brought us some great players to watch as manager like Wally Walters, Vitas Astafjevs, Jamie Cureton, Jason Roberts, Nathan Ellington and Bazza Hayles. Not to mention results and performances like the 5-0 away win at Oxford, the 6-2 away win at Brentford, the 4-1 away win at Stoke City and the 6-0 away win at Reading.

That’s a bit below the belt. Olly always gave 100% in a Rovers shirt and won promotion. If you don’t think he was as good as Bradford or Taylor fair enough but to call him a chancer ? Each to their own but I’m surprised that a Rovers man through and through hasn’t got respect for an ex player who was brilliant for us and always gave his all.

Hard to understand the Ollie negativity being expressed.
Some of the best memories watching the gas often involve Ollie, he is a shoe in for a starting place in anyone's best players of the last 40 or so years. Personally I always found him a gent and entertaining off the pitch.
Of course he makes a living when not working as manager, by making a noise. Yes, he says contoversial and at times silly things, if he didn't he wouldn't get the gig. Few managers can openly afford to be a supporter of their previous clubs, otherwise they rule themselves out of their next paying job. Basic common sense you say what the new club supporters want to hear to get yourself into the managers chair.
I still think he would give us a massive lift and inject much needed excitement into the club. He would have moved us quickly up the table. But we went for an untried, steadier, cheaper and safer option. This may well work out,if we maintain the improvement against the better teams, and if it does I like all gasheads will be very happy with the choice.
But lets be honest its not as exciting as it would be with Ollie at the helm.

Totally agree with oldgas re, Holloway , u cannot take a word he says seriously,it’s all about Ollie nothing else registers with him, I agree with The professional Bristolian comment I cringe every time he opens his mouth. I used to feel embarrassed for HIM- I now just feel embarrassed 😦 I don’t believe he has any affection for BRFC, I think he is a very bitter man regards the way he perceives he was treated when managing the gas ,I once had the misfortune to engage in a conversation with him a few years ago in Asda car park longwell green , not 1word that came out of his mouth conveyed any hint of affection for the rovers , just deep , deep resentment, as I said a bitter man , UTG,

I loved watching him play, and I agree, that Rovers side in the late 80's and 1990 was one of the best I have seen. We played some great football when he was manager. If he had left it at that, had moved on when something better was offered no-one would have been offended. It's the way he portrayed himself as a loyal Gashead, professing undying love for the club, that's what I don't like. It's he way he keeps popping up, especially now he's out of a job, spouting his nonsense. Only this week he was saying how disappointed he was he didn't even get an interview, after what he said about the owners and the BOD! Unbelievable. As Purdown Poacher said Its all about Holloway.

As for the comments about the Bristolian accent, What is wrong with it I'm proud to be identified as a Bristolian. You are entitled to your opinions though I have never heard Ollie express bitterness towards BRFC. All of the bitterness seems to come from posters who for whatever reason have taken a dislike to him and seem to resent that others love him for the legend that he is.

With respect Justinblue . I have not repeated 1word of the conversation with Holloway . Just that he certainly didn’t say anything that indicated any affection for BRFC, far from it , as regards Bristolian accent . I didn’t say I disliked it ,,what I was implying was Holloway plays on the village turnip persona ,,it has made him a good living with the mainstream media for years , UTG.
