You never know. Could be a bargaining tactic?
Then again if it’s truly the UWE reborn then that probably doesn’t work by now

It would be nice to verify the validity of the statement. If it's all fallen through why not give us some loose detail? I know someone will say it's due to confidentiality clauses but without evidence people will, understandably, question it. I'd love it to be true I'm just a little cynical due to the repeated kicks in the face that Rovers supporters regularly receive.

In other news the island I was hoping to buy (but can't name because of confidentialty) at some point in tbe future is no longer for sale so I'll have to look at alternatives. Desperately disappointing as I have invested spent many hours into day dreaming about what I could do with it, but that's the way it goes and I remain committed to buying one some day.

No, No, no this is absolute dog sh1t. The pressure has finally mounted on them enough to think that they need to issue a statement. They could name the site as it has completely fallen through, for example ‘I was looking to purchase no 9 Fool road but unfortunately it has fallen through due to the fact that I’m unable to get planning permission for a giant penis statue in the garden’ simples no? This statement is as believable as flat earth theory, also like flat earth theory many of you will lap it up and believe it with statements like ‘I feel much better about our club than I did 24 hours ago’ really! surely that’s only because we won yesterday and not this pile of crap coming from the board.

Apparently we’ve been looking at using the land at the colony for stadium and training ground. Not sure how much this is rumour vs fact, but heard from several sources this morning.
Not claiming to be ITK - but people who’ve shared this are usually spot on with their claims.

Some certainty about what was planned / they had in mind would be nice.

Is it bad luck? Or are they poor negotiators? Or, are they hyping up a possibility that was going nowhere anyway? I suspect the latter. It's fallen through so why wouldn't you name the location?. I suspect, realising they have lost the fan base, they felt they needed to say something. Amateur hour communications I think. Amateur questions and a very poor communication clearly showing a biased slant, why are the questions only confirming your negative thoughts? Where are the positive questions to keep it in balance. Is it bad luck? YES are they poor negotiators? They bought a very good football club so know what they are doing in my book are they hyping up a possibility that was going nowhere anyway? They stated they were looking at options, one down that by the statement I assume was a preferred site away from the Mem. Just look at previous Rovers Boards that have spent money researching sites at the likes of Hambrook, Severnside, UWE etc I suspect the latter. It's fallen through so why wouldn't you name the location? Because that would lead to comments like the site could only be developed for a tented stadium, or they didn't have the money for such a good site, or it's in/out of town, or too close/faraway from my home. I'm such you could add a few more negatives along with a few others "fans" I suspect, realising they have lost the fan base, they felt they needed to say something. Not a question but a statement. At least some clarity here in that you accept it is an assumption. I think you are correct that they needed to say something. This forum is full of fans asking for a statement, but when it's not 100% positive some fans turn a positive into a negative. "I suspect" they have not lost the fan base only the doubters!

When the colony was first purchased the covenant amendments were available to see online. From memory one of the remaining covenants was that no entry fee could be charged for spectators (I'm happy to be corrected). Take your pick on the following. I'm just thinking out loud.
Plan was to get covenant changed and proceed with a stadium/training complex. or New plan for complex elsewhere hence no movement on colony. If granted colony would be surplus and sold on

I reckon they are just releasing this statement to pull a few tails and have a bloody good laugh about it.

That’s it isn’t it. Name the place. Announce where it was and what the plan was and why it fell through. If they don’t do that it’s pretty difficult to believe that this is anything more than patronising lies or half truths at best.

That's sums up things nicely, at least they could have said they've been in talks with either BCC or S Glos planners to support the statement, as things stands it just sounds like they've made it up to appease the Gasheads demanding a statement.

Good post!! I am questioning bad luck with a large degree of incredulity. I wouldn't agree BRFC is a good club to buy. It's an economic basket case that requires very significant amount of capital investment just to catch up. I wouldn't compare them with previous shareholders, the proposition from Dwayne Sports was entirely different than from the Dunford family and then Higgs. The club had fallen significantly behind, on and off the pitch since 2000, under those regimes. They did not have the capital to correct this. Dwayne Sports brought the hope that they did. It appears not. Should they have named the site that has just fallen through? Absolutely if just for credibility, theirs, which has been shredded recently. I strongly suspect they didn't because other sources of capital may have been involved and they didn't want to be exposed. Personally, I don't dislike the owners, as owners. I do think they over promised and did not deliver, then ran off to hide. But we are where we are. The coming budget cuts for next season will test their relationship with the fan base I suspect.

" Whilst it is not possible to share all details due to confidentiality arrangements" Where have I heard that before? The word ‘all’ is a bit patronising, “any” is the word they needed.

I simply don’t believe a word that anyone from the club says. I’m not moaning about the statement , I simply think the lot of them are full of sh** and I don’t think they’ve been pursuing anything , I think this statement is to take some heat off the owners and buy them a little more time, like I’ve said for a while , I have no trust in the board whatsoever. One false dawn after another , if they really were astute businessmen with plans to progress our facilities and really had the funds available we would of seen something positive in regards to our new ground , revamped mem or training ground by now. Well we will find out when the accounts are published, so they can't hide stuff forever. They wrote of over a million in the last accounts, so they were trying to get Uwe done then. So if similar happens over the next few years, we will know they were telling the truth. I've said all along anything could be happening, we just don't know. Although loads make out they do.
