Haven't got round to watching the latest "The Paras" documentary yet, but apparently during the ad break they showed one for the Royal Marines. Great timing!! 😀 Stu is this the para series from the 80's No, it's a new one, on ITV I think. The 80s one is available on iPlayer and possibly set the benchmark IMO.

All these adverts and documentaries are doing their job as far as I can tell, reaching out to different people who have different reasons for joining. That is why there are different styles and so many of them in recent times. The problem is processing applications. I worked with the first person to take charge when Crapita took over the army recruitment admin. I thought that she was so bad in the job she left that the MOD would regret it. Sadly I wasn't wrong. 😶 All three services are well short of their budgeted headcount, which is already too low for what they need to fo by several thousand. Aye worked with a few folk like that, agree with you regarding the Services headcount.I firmly believe the Service chiefs know what their primary role is and I would guess that is to protect Europe's Eastern flank not to be the world's policeman on the coat tails of the US ,although Trump's isolationism has curtailed that somewhat. Unfortunately our Government still believes we have a devine right to interfere come what may, heyho a massive debate! ! The recruiting process seems a lot longer than it did in the 80's 90's lad applied took an age from selection weekend until the medical (in this day and age you would think that with the recruits permission they would be able to access their medical records but oh no still need a letter from GP ,which create another bottle neck. The main issue with this is although they get a name number and email address of one of their recruitment team ,when the ring or email it's always the same hing waiting on the medical notes ,which then causes a few recruits to get a job elsewhere as you cant live on nothing

The service chiefs are told to plan for one thing (they shouldn't be absolved either) but by the time the money is reluctantly given the role changes. For example we pulled out of a vehicle project to save money and fund a different kind of operation, then realised we needed that anyway. In the meantime our German partners went ahead and we are now buying it from Germany (well, sort of, but it highlights the general issue), 10 years late and at a premium. The equipment we need to guard eastern Europe has been left as it was 20 years ago and we now have block obsolescence which will cost a lot and take time to rectify. It's one of my key interests and I could probably write a thread to rival Pirate's Wishlist!!!

Based on an existing design so the first 100 being built in Spain by the existing factory for expediency with outfitting and the remaining 489 built in South Wales. No EU insistence as defence programmes are exempted from EU competition rules.

I read the soldier, in advert for the Snowflake, is far from happy, as he had no idea they were using his image.

To be honest i don't know what the f..k a snowflake is supposed to be, fragile , but he has took a lot of water taking and is resigning, can they do that, from the army.

I think it is 12 months notice, provided he has done his minimum 4 years (3 with the notice period). He may try exceptional circumstances such as a medical discharge or early termination of his contract but I wouldn't know the requirements (commanding officer agreement, perhaps). Hopefully one of the army posters here will answer.

One dropped out and went to another regiment and in the last episode one made it after being backsquaddied. On the original series, there was one who was exemplary and passed, only to be medically discharged on a technicality. Ended up in a TV hire shop. Seemed a waste.
