Let's not rule out Bennett just yet. He's not had a good season but you don't just become a bad player. I think he's suffered a little this year from Lee Brown's departure in that there's been no-one supplying the width when he cuts inside. THD may be the answer there.

Why not. No point throwing cold water on enthusiasm and positivity. Forward thinking and energy is what we now have. I’m with the dressing room who will silently be taking each gsmevas it comes but will know anything is possible. Exciting times for those willing to aim high. Enjoy the journey. I’ve got a feeling it’s going to be another ride to remember. Yeah and if it all goes tits up again you’ll be nowhere to be seen just like last time. As long as you bring up these threads I will always remind you of that. Oh, and this too!

Got to be honest I'm bored of these threads now too. God knows what we are doing talking about finishing 8th when we are in the middle of a relegation battle. I'll take 20th!

Totally agree GGMI, absolutely ridiculous. Were in a serious relegation battle, a quick look at our fixture list should confirm to all who do that we will do very well to stay out of the bottom four. Anyone who thinks we can achieve a playoff position has obviously not seen us play on a regular basis. We are a very poor side who at best can become a reasonable side, certainly not play off contenders, given the right leadership. 46 games define your season, not a few games over the Christmas period.

Agreed Bideford. I personally think Wimbledon are sure to go down but other than that, it really could be 3 from any number of teams.

It seems sensible to set targets again. We are 11pts from 8th place. Our present performance suggests we might be able to at least achieve this as an end position for our season. It would be stretching but might well be achievable. If we keep up the run we might even dream again about play offs. After all the negativity it great having a manager that builds confidence, belief and hope. It’s never too late to be ground breaking. I'm in Rich 's bus here ! Sorry GGMI and many others but I want to be positive.

I hope you're right but I just think he's been found out. Pompey found him out hence letting him go so easily. He looked promising as technically he is very good but terrible in the final 3rd and little end product.

Staying up would be fantastic. When you see scunthorpe signing four players and transfer activity from other relegation rivals you wonder if our clubs incredibly sluggish recruitment methods will be enough to keep us up. Add to that the stated need to move players off the wage bill before we can recruit, you have to wonder if we can sign anyone who can make a difference at all in january. On a positive note the club payed for a nandos meal recently which was a nice gesture. To be fair all the sides that were in trouble in the last two seasons went mad in the window bought a load of players and got relegated. 2 or three out and 2 or three in will do us if they’re the right signings. We’ve got a good squad but the balance isn’t there because DC screwed that up this summer one way or another , we just need more width and a target man. I’d be happy to see Coughlan signed and Bennet and Mathews leave to be replaced but a couple of proper wingers with pace who can cross and Nichols leave to be replaced by a decent target man. If we do that then we’ll finish mid table I reckon. It just strikes me that scunthorpe knew they were in trouble, decided which players they needed well before january and got the deals done ASAP. How will it work with us?

How will it work with us? I don’t know to be honest none of us do. The clubs at a cross roads and we don’t even know who our manager will be next time we take to the field. I’d be worried if the new manager changed half the squad in January though.

I still remember Malcolm Allison’s stint in charge of the team. 4 straight wins (including a demolition of City) to lift us clear of the relegation zone followed by a total collapse and relegation. Not saying that will happen again, but I am still looking below us and hoping we have enough to survive.

I've always found in life it's best to aim as low as possible, and then the crushing disappointments aren't quite so bad when they inevitably happen.

Funny how you always pop up with this stuff when we start winning This! This. Thousands pop up when we start winning. As it happens, I’ve been there through the ups and downs since the early 70’s. I pop up whenever I feel like it.
