I actually think it might be worth putting a contract to Lockyer, if this interest from Nottingham Forest or any other club in the Championship fails to materialise and it comes down to Pompey and other L1 clubs trying to secure his signiture, we may stand more of the chance. There is certainly no harm in trying. In his mind he’s already left. He said something along the lines of if he’s honest he should have left 2 years ago. I disagree with him. I think the last 2 years will have been a big education for him having gone through a very rocky spell and learned a lot from Craig, all the time having been captain. I don’t like what he said but it was probably just clumsy language from someone who has made a big career decision and needs to justify it to himself. Still, it’s inconceivable he will go back on his decision now, in my opinion. I'm actually a little surprised that he didn't already have something lined up when he announced he was leaving. Last season didn't Lee Brown pretty much know he was going to sign for Portsmouth before he announced he would be leaving? I assume most players who do this already have some options? What if no championship teams want him? I would like to think that because he isn't costing anything that some teams would be looking at him but I also think there is a very good chance he will remain in league one. Not only Portsmouth but there are also others such as the loser of the play off final, and relegated teams such as Ipswich.

Quote from Arsenal today 'we can't be in a situation where we let players walk out the door for nothing' Rovers take note! Aaron Ramsey. which is why they have put measures in place so there is no repeat

Aaron Ramsey. which is why they have put measures in place so there is no repeat Ramsey apparently agreed terms which were then withdrawn, so forcing him to seek a move, that's slightly different than Locks clearly deciding to run down his contract. Perhaps we could have forced him to move for £300K last January like BB but then we could have finished up getting relegated.

Hull named as a club wanting Lockyer. Good move for him if true.

Pompey seem desp for him! Pompey would be tempting because of their name and location, but I think it would be a mistake for him. Apart from their big support Pompey are nothing special and could be stuck in L1 for years yet. Hull City are currently a much bigger club and if true, Locks would be mad to turn them down.

Think QPR almost signed him before he went to Charlton so maybe they’ll be interested again Edit - actually it might have been hull... stupid memory

Can't see him joining a L1 team. Giggs told him he needs Championship football in order to play for Wales so that really defeats the point

Clearly, he views himself as a championship player. In truth, he probably is. Whatever his next move is it won't be back to Rovers. I'm sure he's level headed enough to avoid a City move.

If he’s got a chance of representing Wales next summer in the Euro’s he would be a fool to turn down City if they came knocking.

The fallout wouldn’t be anywhere near as bad as Matty leaving us. He hasn’t activated a paltry minimum release clause to them He isn’t going straight there They’re not generally doing us over if he signs for them. On the flip side, I think they’ll be much less enamoured with him for all the lack of the above. And he’ll immediately be ex-Gas and have to work to earn his name as a result. I could see it happening, but it’s probably not the best move for him more because he’ll be looked down upon the moment he sets foot in the door and will have to work for it to make his name.

If he does go to City, let's hope that he has the same success with them that he had with Charlton!

Seems to be a few Swansea rumours going around as well. Probably Swans or Cardiff would be best for his Welsh hopes. Both could do with him? Not the best time to go though. Derby lost Keogh and there are other Championship clubs who may want him so ...? Bournemouth have also lost Ake. GL to him wherever he ends up. UTG
