I’d like one of the five to be a CM, tbh. If we go into next season with Clarke, Upson, Ogogo & Sercombe as our CMs I think we’re going to badly lack creativity in that area of the team. But it wouldn’t surprise me if GC will be happy to play a couple of battlers in there. Would like to see us go for Amond (ST) from Newport if they stay down. Also wouldn’t mind us going in for Sweeney at Mansfield. He looks much leaner than when he was last here and is comfortable bringing the ball out from the back. I think we missed the boat with Sweeney, should have signed him for free when we had the chance, he had gone off the boil a bit but was still 19 or 20 and we had seen enough potential to have offered him a deal. isn't he on the slow side though ?

So GC said he'd like to get 4 or 5 new players in as starters next season. I'd be over the moon if he gets 5 new starters . I think we all agree the 5 positions so who would you like that player to be (only 1 or 2 player suggestions please and realistic ones. Gk. Bonham, RB : grimmer (Cov) CB: Davies (Coventry) although would like taller player LM: Carey (plymouth) CF: Ladapo, (Plymouth) Gk: Bonham RB : Tom James (Yeovil), Aaron Lewis (Swansea) or Andrew Lyons (Bohemians) CB: Cian Harries (Swansea), Paul Downing (Blackburn), Curtis Nelson (Oxford) or Rhys Williams (Liverpool, loan) LM: Graham Carey (Plymouth), Danny Mayor (Bury) Josh Morris (Scunthorpe) or Morgan Rogers (West Brom, loan) CF: Adam Idah (Norwich, loan), Valmir Suljemani (Waldorf Mannheim) or Ryan Cassidy (Watford, loan) Sorry, I couldn't just mention one or two options. Ive only seen Nelson (like him), Carey and Morris play in a live game ? What about Hennighan ? gone back to Sheff U - thought you rated him ?

The Sweeney conundrum. After his first spell with us, I'd say yes all day long. But if I was to judge him on his second spell, I'd say no. The fact he ended up at Mansfield sort of says it all.

Won a couple of player of the year awards on loan at Blackpool. There are loads of others I like, but tried to limit the numbers to 3 or 4 suggestions.

Probably won't ever come back so epidemic now anyway but I'd guess if he's lost a few pounds he may have gained a few mph?

The fact he ended up at Mansfield sort of says it all. I'd say the form he showed for a prolonged period in his first spell at such a young age was enough to see he has plenty of potential. I always thought he carried a few extra pounds and from what I've read he's now fitter and doing well at Mansfield. Too late now anyway and I fear we'll get a second rate replacement for Locks and I thought with TB having left we were one light at centre half anyway. Nelson would be a great signing but can't see us showing that level of ambition.

Gk Day (Newport...if they don't go up) RB Grimmer looks a good fit CB Sweeney - seems to have got over his problems of last season having been part of a mean Mansfield defence. Mf Templeton (Burton) St Sims on loan from Southampton or Wheeler on loan from QPR now he's back from MKD (doubt we can buy anyone good enough to be a starter up front). Neither are out and out strikers, more like attacking midfielders but think either could do a job alongside or just behind JCH. Yes I like Templeton - has he been released by Burton ? No, he picked up a knee ligament injury and is in rehab after an op... that's sometimes a trigger for a club to cash in on their worth just in case the player does not quite reach pre-injury performance levels.

Templeton is a gifted player, highly skilled, a bit o a luxury player but is not a big worker, imo not tough enuff. an i dinnae think that will fit in with how we are gonna be playing for th foreseeable.
Talented lad tho.

I picked out Heneghan a little while back. I would definitely have him in now, another year off his sheffield united contract - they wanted rid of him last summer i recall but nobody would pay him out of his 2 year contract. Now is a great time to offer after a decent season with Blackpool and him being substantially far away from ever getting into that Sheffield Utd team.

Might be the one he's after.

Also thinking about height from corners etc as he’s 6’5”! Would come for the game time too, he’s not getting any younger. Would be expected to be hitting his peak in the next few years and needs to be playing week in week out for the sake of his own career.

Hows the squad looking for the season ahead? Who would you like to see signed & what positions should be strengthened?
Who else should be got rid of!
Goalkeepers -
Alexis Andre
Defenders -
Tareiq Holmes-Dennis Tony Craig Rollin Menayese Michael Kelly Alfie Kilgour Joe Partington James Clarke
Midfielders -
Ed Upsom Liam Sercombe Ollie Clark Kyle Bennett Abumere Ogogo Sam Mathews Bernard Mensah Alex Rodman Luke Russ
Strikers -
Stefan Payne Tom Nicholes Jonson Clarke-Harris Gavin Reilly Deon Moore
Clearly we need 2 competitive goalkeepers, I think everyone recognises that. I think 1 more CB is needed, I like Menayese and Kilgour as back up, but I don’t think they’re ready to play every week atm. Would like a more attacking midfielder, Carey from Plymouth has been mentioned a lot but I also like Sammie Schmodics from Colchester. Defo need another winger, though Rodman is good and I would like to see Matthews and Bennett fight for their places. Stefan Payne has to go ASAP, and I would like to see Reilly given a second season, there’s definitely a player in there. Nichols a good player to have in the squad so maybe one more striker to keep competition tough, though wouldn’t be a disaster if we didn’t sign one as it gives the others a chance to step up, and maybe a chance for Deon Moore to show us what he has.

Just read this about Bennett -
RICHIE Wellens has accepted he cannot compete with Kyle Bennett’s current wage packet at Bristol Rovers, but has expressed his interest in re-visiting the midfielder towards the end of the summer transfer window.
Bennett, 28, joined Town from Rovers on a loan deal lasting until the end of the season on deadline day in January.
Four goals in his 15 appearances in red were complemented by his ability to break up play in midfield and spark attacking phases of play.
Bennett himself admitted after Town’s 2-1 defeat against Crewe in April that a long-term stay at SN1 would be of interest to him.
But Wellens admits successfully negotiating a permanent deal with Bristol Rovers won’t be easy.
“Kyle (Bennett) is a difficult one,” admitted Wellens.
“His contract at Bristol Rovers is very good, it’s something that we can’t compete with.
“One thing we don’t want to do is sign Kyle as soon as possible, because then we would have to be paying him through the summer – that’s not a position we can afford to be in.
“Kyle will be a player we will target towards the back end of the window. I’m totally comfortable waiting for him.
“He knows the group and he wouldn’t have to settle in. With some new signings, you want them in as quickly as possible so they can get to know the players and staff.
“With Kyle, we know that isn’t the case. He knows the way we want to play.
“If Bristol are willing to do something, it will be an easy signing.”
Outgoings from the list of players in contract with Town are unlikely to be completed sooner rather than later, with the Town boss keen to channel his focus on recruitment at this moment in time.
The 39-year-old has already stated that he has no plans to include Jermaine McGlashan in Town’s squad next season, while regular first-team absentees since Wellens took charge that remain in contract include Ellis Iandolo.
Wellens added: “When I joined, 50 per cent of the squad were David Flitcroft’s players and the other 50 per cent were Phil Brown’s.
“Players were still under contract from former managers – that isn’t their (former managers) fault. They obviously wanted to stamp their footprint on the team.
“But, for me, Flitcroft and Brown are two different styles of managers. I felt it was a good opportunity to have a clear-out and maybe do two transfer windows in one.”

GC's already offered Parts a contract and was signing Nichols praises on Having a Gas so it looks like they might both be staying. Getting rid of the likes of Payne, Bennett and Mensah may well be good enough for GC, as we'll still probably have to contribute to some of their wages to get them off the wage bill.

1) Sign an experienced GK with Andre as no.2 2) Sign a dominant centre half 3) Ship out Bennett, Mensah, Matthews and Payne (somehow!) 4) Convert Nicholls into a winger 5) Sign a quick, skillful wide man 6) Sign a goalscorer 7) Sign a creative midfielder 8) Get a couple of attacking youngsters on loan to provide competition
Job done.
