He’s clearly fishing for it there and look how many he’s caught! I’m pretty sure he’s just winding up the kid who tried to wind him up.

Perhaps it was all tongue in cheek? Awful that he would respond to criticism in this way, but surely he is being a WUM? He is litter, and being a sh** player shouldn't even be on social media. However he was getting pelters so responded in kind. Obviously a bright lad just like the ones who baited him...

The bloke's obviously being ironic in response to some lady gardens harassing him on social media. Context. Don't disagree but what's the point in replying? A very poor professional on and off the field. Scary to think he may well have two years left on his contract.

Don't disagree but what's the point in replying? Yeah, what was the point in gesturing to our fans? Obviously doesn't learn. But that still doesn't mean he didn't try, which was the plainly bullshit spin that it was given on this thread.

Not one of DC's finest signings Hindsight is a wonderful thing. Shrewsbury had a great season being in the top 2 all season and missed out on an automatic spot right at the end and failed in the play offs. Rodman and Payne was instrumental in Shrewsbury's season. Payne was their top scorer. Personally, he wasn't a name I was really aware of and underwhelmed by his signing but then I saw he was Shrewsbury's top scorer and thought he must have something about him. I can see why DC went for him. After going through a season of Luke James then followed by the next season of Tom Nichols, Payne must have been very attractive to DC after proving himself in his final season at Shrewsbury.

Perhaps it was all tongue in cheek? Awful that he would respond to criticism in this way, but surely he is being a WUM? That’s my first thought too , don’t get me wrong I’m not Payne’s biggest fan from what I saw of him in the quarters but this could just be in jest to someone having a pop at him , I could be wrong but I’m not reading too much into this. I agree. I think he is reacting to try and wind up fans as he knows his time is up so he doesn't really care what he says or how he says it. But I guess there is so much a person can take. So many people has had a pop at him throughout the season, which I feel is stupid and out of order. But Payne hasn't helped himself by how he reacts.

I watched every game he played at home and a couple away and the lack of effort was obvious. Didn't even leave the ground or attempt to challenge for some headers. Didn't look fit enough to me either. Get rid ASAP.

He scored 9 league goals from open play last season. Wow.

The bloke's obviously being ironic in response to some lady gardens harassing him on social media. Context. This is exactly how I see it. The only thing wrong in this is the whole fact that he's even responding to it at all. Totally unnecessary and can only do harm rather than good.

I don't do Twitter, but is this actually him? I mean anyone can make an account with his name. The blue tick next to his name should mean it is.
Ah OK, I've often seen the blue tick and wondered what it was for.
So a blue tick is conformation it is that person

I don;t think ans should read to much into Twitter Tittle Tattle, its what the guy does on the field that counts. Last season he didn't do much . If he stays with us next season I hope it works out for him.

He scored 9 league goals from open play last season. Wow. Think that was the previous season - only 2 goals last season including 1 penalty. His EFL scoring record is abysmal, plus his attitude adds up to a player that the club really need to get rid of through whatever means even if it means coming to an agreement on cancelling his contract. IMO he's not even worth his 'cost of employment' to the Club.

Fan abuses him, SP gives a few sarcastic comments back and hes in the wrong?
For what it's worth I think we should get rid but do not think he's at fault for responding to morons behind a keyboard.

IMO he's not even worth his 'cost of employment@ to the Club. Sorry, I meant his last season before he joined us. 9 goals in open play for Shrewsbury. His teammate Jon Nolan scored as many goals from open play as him and Nolan played in midfield. Six other midfielders scored as many or more than him from midfield in the division that season too. Like you said, his EFL scoring record is abysmal. I can almost accept him being not good enough, but to not put in the required effort is certainly not acceptable. I would literally be prepared to chip in a few quid for a crowdfunder to buy out his contract and hope we can get rid asap.

There is a difference between not trying, and being outclassed by better players.
Tom Nicols inst good enough, but I can honestly say I have never seen that lad not try. Stefan Payne was lazy, didn't run, didn't jump, didn't want the ball, gave the ball away when he did have it, didn't make any effort to win a ball. Except his first game. After that he was utter toilet.

Even Luke James tried and put effort in, but Peterborough knew what they were doing when they shipped out both Nichols and James to us - what a strike force! - unbelievable their combined goal return. If we add up their total number of EFL games for us (including Payne) - maybe 200 + (ish) ? and a net return of maybe 4 goals between the three of them - it beggars belief.
