Madness, at the moment there are too many teams from Asia in the WC. Only China, Japan and to a lesser extent South Korea, are into the Women's game from that region.
To look at it from the other side though, how are the other countries going to get interested, if they don't see their players on the world stage?

BTW, I wonder if we'll see so many complaints about disproportionate coverage of Women's sports when Asher-Smith and Muir win gold medals at the next Olympics?

As a watcher of youth girls football I’m not surprised at the high standard
Been watching a few games and personally I think it’s brilliant
Particularly noteworthy is the lack of rolling around injured (acting like a girl !?) and the genuine acceptance of a referees decisions
In a game where the men’s version is lauded above all these girls are showing class and leading the way imo in on pitch behaviours

With the Woman's world cup just around the corner, will we be watching? The Woman's game has made great strides in recent years just a shame that Rovers from being one of the pioneers have been left behind, how did the move to the dark side happen?personally i am very impressed with pundits Sue Smith ,Alex Scott and the like but are not that enthusiastic about watching games, would be interesting to know the forums views , any lady members out there? I'm optimistic that the coverage and interest that the women's world cup is generating might have a knock on effect for the men's netball game, which is so unfairly ignored by the media. I see your point, but speaking as a proud male, it's all too easy to preach inequality and complain about those sort of things, when you're on the side that has not had to suffer oppression and lopsidedness in society for pretty much as long as our species has existed. It's similar to white people claiming that they've been racially abused. Of course it happens and it shouldn't be condoned, but the fact is that generally speaking we westerners have got little right to complain about these things considering the suffering that those in the developing world have had to endure over the years, and still do. It's like complaining to an amputee that you've broken your toe. It might still hurt a lot, but there are other things of greater importance. The Women's game is getting wider coverage now than it ever has, and I agree it's disproportionate to the interest levels, even I have little interest in it compared to lower league mens football, but I'm starting to take more of an interest. The increased coverage it has to be done though in order to try to bridge the gap between male and female sports and provide the female sports a platform from which to be acknowledged. Is there anything wrong with that?

Is there anything wrong with that? See I'm not even sure it is disproportionate. It's vaguely proportionate to most other sports with similar interest and participation levels - Men's cricket, tennis, athletics, snooker, golf, rugby etc.
It probably is disproportionate compared to the massive interest and participation in Men's football, but so are all of the above. If all sports were reported in precise proportion to interest levels, men's football would have to be 90% of the BBC Sport site.

part of the reason for the beebs mass coverage is the fact that they have not got the rights to many of the major events so when they do get the chance its all guns blazing!

Yep fair point, and I would actually say that the other sports such as cricket, RU, RL, tennis etc, don't get enough coverage in my opinion. Don't get me wrong I think you're right that they probably get more coverage than the % of interest in it, but whilst football is the sport I follow the most, I wish the other sports had better coverage. TalkSport is the worst. Even in the off-season, its just constant football and I actually get bored of it so I rarely listen. I'd like to hear more about the other sports as I find it all interesting. Just my opinion though and I'm sure these companies do thorough market research and mostly report on what the vast majority want to see/hear/read.

Yep, their yearly bigging up of the FA cup is pathetic considering not only have clubs themselves abandoned it but attendances are crap as well. Yet they talk up each televised tie like it's unmissable TV.

Had a lovely conversation with an ex-team mate of Wendie Renard last night about her own goal. Absolutely lovely stuff.

I watched the first 20 mins of France Norway last night and I can confirm it was every bit as sh** as men's international football.

Best player in the world for my money, graceful yet powerful. That own goal was fantastic though. Can really see France running away with this tournament.

You have to remember that for years the BBC and ITV had the monopoly in the UK, yet we never saw the Lions play live. We never saw England play cricket abroad. We only got two or three live football games per season. The sports coverage back then was dire.

Brazil doing good so far FWIW. Much better to watch than that disgrace of a men's NT.
Cristiane, the top scorer (4) and the best player so far, has a beautiful and interesting story about how she nearly didn't join the NT for the WC because she and Marta (the one who won like 6 trophies) were protesting about the humongous difference in treatment/prizes/etc between men and women's NTs, and when the top brass ignored her, she dropped the team. She was eventually convinced 1 year later or so to rejoin, then got badly injured and at 34, she was sure this was it for her career and developed actual depression... now she's the talk of the country around here.
