Kampucheagas makes a good point, I think Tomlinson is high up in GCS plans, and there are one or two others bubbling under like Tom Mehew who can pick a pass. Get them in there! Wouldn’t it be great to see some fruition from the development squad ! We have Agogo, Clarke and Upson who are pretty good at what they do, add some flair around them and we might be pleasantly surprised! Biggest hope for a good start is to hope JCH is fit sooner than later! UTG

"Cash-strapped Rovers." Is that how we are going to be described from now on in the press? The whole Scales saga is very strange. UCD manager says: “It’s still stalled. We’re still told we’re just waiting on a final bit of paperwork but… nothing. It’s dragging on a little.” Coughlan says: "There is obviously an issue with the paperwork as we all know." “There are one or two minor details which need tidying up, which need sorting out, whether we do that or not I don’t know? “It is out of my hands now, I have passed it onto the powers that be [at Rovers] - he is a player I have identified and I liked.”

Suspect the “...issue with the paperwork...” is likely the paperwork with the Queens head on it.

Yes the Scales saga is very strange, the guy clearly wants to join us, our manager clearly likes him (and so do Man City). Yet some apparent minor detail in the paperwork has held this up for a long time. An attitude change is needed in the club, we seem to be starting the season in sleep walking mode.

Perhaps we need to move on Rollin before we sign Scales or otherwise we will have one to many CB's on the budget, or perhaps GC's decided he needs to now spend more money further up the pitch, given Scales is likely to start as back to TC I can't see his signing is vital at the moment.

I reckon it'll be the board/owners putting a limitation on more defenders knowing that attacking players are more critical. If I were in their shoes, I'd stop GC signing more defensive players when we're crying out for more impact further up the pitch. Like for like we're down 5 players on last season now Mensah has gone out on loan, even after the 7 signings.

Scales is a left footed defender. Given the fact that he adds pace (the managers words) and ability (Man City like the look of him) suggests he will soon be the Clubs No. 1 defender with a sell on value

We are a poorly run club from the top down. We’re playing the whole of pre season in last years kit and the season starts in a week without a new kit or new sponsor to be seen, we have made zero improvement to the forward area of the team (something that should have been made priority) just seems gc wants to employ all his mates in the backroom positions and we can’t get transfers over the line from a university semi professional Irish team

Up the Crazy Gang!

Christ.
This is starting to become a bit embarrassing now, and reflecting pretty poorly on us as a club.
We’re signing a young player from University College Dublin AFC here, not poaching the star striker of a fellow L1 rival. How has this turned into such a drawn out and confusing deal?
Liquid Gas, this.

Well I’ll tell you one thing after chasing him for what seems like months he must be a real superstar. Haven’t we learned anything our past mistakes spending a whole or transfer window chasing after one player??

Well I’ll tell you one thing after chasing him for what seems like months he must be a real superstar. Haven’t we learned anything our past mistakes spending a whole or transfer window chasing after one player?? Sounds to me a deals done so we're hardly still chasing him. Why the deals not confirmed is anybody's guess but I guess it's easy to blame the club.

Scales actually returned to the UCD lineup tonight and played in their 2-1 defeat. Perhaps a move is now off the cards?

Whether he signs for us or someone else eventually, it’s better he gets his match fitness somewhere rather than be too rusty to hit the ground running with the season start imminent
