This is the last chance saloon for a new Stadium for Rovers. No other football club in the UK have been waiting for a new stadium longer then Bristol Rovers. The ideal was mooted as far back as the late 1970’s when Graham Holmes was chairman. If this doesn’t get off the ground, then we will never ever leave the Memorial Stadium as the amount of land needed for a new stadium with a car park is diminishing. Let’s hope this does happen. If this doesn’t, then I fear for the future of Bristol Rovers Football Club.

When the plans were passed for UWE, I always had a feeling it wasn't going to happen. This project is different, Bristol City Council are keen on us having a new stadium on the site, Conygar are keen on the club being involved in the development and we have got some good people at the top of the club negotiating for a deal.

Where is the BCC admission that they are keen? Not doubting you, but haven't seen that? Also Conygar? I'd imagine we are one of a few interested commercial bidders for a peice of the land. They won't care what goes there, the payback will be paramount.

Just our luck he'll be out of a job soon, let's just hope we have similar support from BCC as we seem to have had from the Mayor's office.

Needs a wake up pill. Travel is easy. Busses. Train parking plenty within half a mile walk. Pubs are close. Black Castle. Knights Templar. Plus whatever they have in the ground. Knights templar is a shocker. Barley Mow now we’re talking.

This is great news! It's not surprising the club couldn't be more forthcoming before now with so many moving parts. Patience rewarded.
Considering the jont statement it seems to me that we are a front runner and will now be negotiating fine details. The short time frame for the option will help focus minds.

I guess that's positive albeit unsure on what weight he carries regarding construction projects? Hasn't Bristol also binned off the mayor position? Still, it's good rather than bad that this tweet exists!

I believe so. Although the statement makes it sound like there’s nothing finalised and we’re some distance from certainty, there’s no way they’d commit to that vid without it being somewhere near the finish line, surely ref? It’s basically saying we’re outta here! Too expensive to complete we are not Everton and made of money. Prefer to stay at the Mem easier to park and pubs around area. Weird way of spelling “so long as I’m alright”

Would a stadium at the Fruit Market site have stand height restrictions? I would love a 40-45 thousand stadium capacity.

Planning decisions are taken by committees and they still will be after the mayor’s position has been abolished. Fortunately the Temple Quarter planning framework mentions a possible sporting use and will still be there post Marvin.

I expect the timing of this announcement has something to do with the expiry of the NDA or that there is a connection with it being the beginning of a new tax year, although I'm no accountant, so that could just be a coincidence. I suspect its the first reason, as the club have been under intense pressure from fans to give some update on progress, and this confirms that plans are still at an embryonic stage. UTG It seems to coincide with Conygar announcing that they have signed a deal that gives them an option to buy the site. So the NDA lapses and they both make a comment on the same day. The video must've been prepared beforehand.

The site is 14.7 acres, the UWE stadium itself was a little under 9.
Should be plenty of room for Conygar to build other amenities. Be interesting to see what the final plans look like.
