One small problem - Steve Lansdown And what exactly is that problem.....? You’d think he owned the city of Bristol, the way some go on.

Anyone know what the difference in land size is between the mem and fruit market. Google maps shows it to look like a very similar plot just a different shape. Would have thought it not big enough if wael wants more than just a stadium on site? For any club in the country the likelihood of finding a site in centre of a large city to build a stadium would be near on impossible ,so if we can pull this off it would be amazing.

Regarding the traffic, the city council, like others all over the country are actively pursuing a strategy to cut as much private traffic as they can out of urban areas. The days of rocking up and parking near the ground are coming to an end.
Like others have pointed out, you will be hard pressed to find a premiership club or many in the championship where you can park nearby.
From my own dealings with planning and the technical process involved in developing a brownfield site there is no way we will be sat in a new stadium 2 years from now. I would expect us at best to be in the early stages of construction. Great if it happens though....

The site's about twice as big as the current total Mem site, istm. Looking at Google Maps, you seem to be right. Will be interesting to see the plans should we get that far. It’s actually a tough piece of land because it’s wide, meaning there is a lot more space behind the goals, than on the side of the pitch. Stands will almost certainly be 2-tiered or if they’re one then the seat gradient would be quite high I’d guess, due to space At each end of the land though there is tonnes of space for car parking etc

I think there are plans to move the park and ride down towards hicks gate on the bath road but there will be spaces in the present park and ride so park there short bus journey get off the bus at totterdown bridge five minutes walk to the fruit market ? If the Park & Ride is moved, then an ideal way to & from would be to open up the old Radstock/Bristol railway line as a direct link ! At the moment it’s unused from the Spine Rd/Blackcastle/Sainsburys to Tesco by the Imperial Ground. I’m unsure on its route towards Stockwood etc, but an option to look at ?

Just out of interest does anyone know what the future holds for the St Phillips HST depot as they're being phased out and replaced with the Hitachi trains which are serviced near to Rolls-Royce. That would open up a hell of a lot more land for redevelopment right next to the site.

Decent location for anyone in Bristol I think. Not so much for those of us who don’t. Parking will be minimal and getting there a nightmare. Not great at the Mem so I arrive early to ensure I can park at the civil service car park.

br]because until a brick is laid I’ll never believe it, sick of false dawns So, why is it embarrassing that there is finally some evidence that things are actually going on behind scenes? I will also believe it when I’m sat in it, but it isn’t embarrassing. What is embarrassing is our shithole of a stadium because I’m personally embarrassed to hear about stadium talk, time and time again!! When we all know, that ultimately, it will NEVER happen.

There isn’t much difference in size of land plot but what you don’t have that the Mem does is an undulating land geometry surrounded by residential houses which limits what you can do in terms of height for stands and light entry, location in terms of what is viable for the area and of course opposition from NIMBYs that just don’t want anything built on that site. That’s where the real advantage lies.

It’s being used as the base for class 165/166 Turbo trains in the West, so it’s unlikely to become surplus to requirements for the foreseeable future.

People ask for wael to give some information regarding stadium and keep fans in the loop a bit more, he does that, and yet talk is about picking holes in it all rather than excitement. Really is no pleasing some people. the amount of times, I’ve got excited “about stadiums “ . Has turned me into the most pessimistic person ever!!

Perhaps this could be included as a car park with footfall under the railway? I know it's easy for me to make fantasy plans in my head mind! I'd love the fruit market site, the Thunderbolt could become our Wellie, and I'd be up for many more Tuesday night games straight after work > pub > football! Access from the Bath road, St Philips, Feeder side and Temple Meads via train or bus sound both good for all directions, but then can get busy as it is. If I won the lottery I'd buy the fruit Market, clear the debt, build a stadium, double up as an arena for events/music/the people of Bristol, and turn that HGV place into a car park for Central workers as a money maker during the day. But I could dream all day eh?

Does anyone know what the land use was prior to the market? The results of the intrusive ground survey could be interesting. I think the pre construction costs for this site will be very high, but that is common for any central development. The place also looks to be riddled with asbestos but again not uncommon in industrial city centres. Once the enabling works are costed in it will be interesting to see what’s left in the budget for the actual build. I would settle for a basic outline stadium to start with. All the fancy bars etc are just a bonus but I guess needed from the start to attract revenue. The term multi sports worries me slightly.

That land is a 4.2 acre site more than big enough for a car park

I just wonder if WAQ was being coy and we are a little further along than he was suggesting. He knows exactly the reaction that this kind of announcement would generate which makes it odd to give so much detail if we were yet to have even looked at planning etc after saying next to nothing for 2 years...
