Good point, there seems to be a fair distance behind the goal to the north terrace but havent measured it. Thought the technical reason was just the score board but surely that can be sacrificed? Wont happen but just thinking not every side needs a year without use to upgrade TG said recently there's some issue with utility pipes or something underground in that corner of the ground. Surely it's not beyond the wit of man to move some pipes or cables. In any case for a temporary stand would it even be a problem. I agree the pitch could move towards the north terrace to give more room at the south. There is a reasonable run off towards the north stand at the moment. It will also mean the fans are closer to the pitch.

One of the things the planners made clear back in 2007 when planning was granted to redevelop The Mem was that they did not want a piecemeal development and that once development had commenced it could only be fully occupied once the stadium had been fully completed. They had seen what had happened in other cities and didn't want a similar carbuncle in Bristol. Remember The Vetch? Re-reading this made me laugh. The planners obviously thought our existing stadium was a thing of beauty.😂 To be quite honest it would be hard to make the Mem look any worse. You may laugh, but it's our home.

Reality is...what part of the ground can you close for a year whilst a replacement stand is built. That still allows safe access to all parts of the ground and have space for any "removed" facilities . (Shop, bar, restaurant etc). North terrace ? Means capacity is dropped by 3000 for a year and bars are lost. South stand ? All away fans are on the terrace. Ground wont have required seating numbers unless a terrace area is temp converted. Lose 1-2000 off capacity. West side ? Lose all boxes and premium seats and changing rooms. Lose 2000+ off capacity. East side ? Unless temp seating put elsewhere wont have required seating levels. All away fans in south stand so virtually no home seating. Loss of shop ,hospitality etc. Capacity reduced by upto 4000. So the least it might be is a year with a 7000 capacity. The worst a 5000 capacity. Which essentially means its not possible. If a stand was largely pre fabricated, and the installation started as the season finished (as they do with the pitch), surely they could get it in place in the off season. The fitting out of facilities beneath the structure can be completed as the season rolls on. If they were to incorporate the corners at the same time, we’d probably (almost certainly) increase capacity reducing impact of future development. Isn’t that what the other mob did over the river! Or alternatively you could build half of the stand at a time.

Like buying a house and letting the owner have a room or two, FOC Invest is different to buy. They may have no interest in the running of a football club, but provide money with the hope of a return (or some other less obvious benefit?) Unlikely to find and convince anyone that their money would be best invested here tho!

Redevelopment of the Mem is certainly possible: 1 cut back the front of the Thatchers by 4/5m - slightly reduced capacity, but not by as much as people think, as the front terrace is then above pitch level, and no need for yellow hatched area, so can use all of terrace. 2 Move the pitch 10+m towards Thatchers - this will allow a decent temporary stand on the South - full width, increases capacity a fair bit and a new temporary stand on the North of the East stand. Both the above can be done during a summer. 3 Prefabricate a Steel based new stand to replace East, so next summer, East can be pulled down and new stand erected, with the extra 10m and full length of pitch - increases capacity. 4 At same time prefabricate new West stand. Following year (during season) West can be dismantled and erection of new West stand can begin. Hoardings can keep everyone safe. 5 Then finally, a bigger and better Thatchers, that rises from pitch level to above the bars, giving much bigger capacity. 6 Finally a new increased South stand can be completed.
This would take 3 closed seasons and 2 football seasons. Of course this involves a fair chunk of change, but not as much as purchasing land and building a brand new stadium somewhere.
It would be even better, if during tearing down of East stand, the pitch is then moved 10m to the east, allowing for a much bigger West stand, but would reduce the carpark by a fair bit, but with the new Ashley Down train station, and maybe some judicious use of park and rides, would help alleviate parking woes, and allow more and new fans to access the redeveloped Mem.

Perhaps. I guess things and opinions can always change but until they do…it’s no new development at the Mem whatever I may wish. UTG! But not insurmountable and if in the long term Wael thought it was the best option then a plan would be found to overcome the difficulties. But as it stands, not atm. UTG!

I don't know what the details of the deal were, however, I can't imagine the person who was pitching it would waste his time on a total non-starter. I'm not enamoured of the Fruit Market site, but we do need ground improvements, or some movement on securing a new ground before too long (sorry, stating the obvious there!).

I'm no investor guru, but looking for investment/partners for a part of the business or project isnt unusual. The money invested could be ringfenced to the FM stadium projects with returns carved out of profits from the stadium once built - with no risk from the footballing operations part of the business. Obviously a million models for investment too with risk/return options and or control/return options. Someone able to put up the costs of the stadium build could be guaranteed their return within 10 years including the agreed ROI, for example. Without them ever needing to set foot in the club

Sewage and other utilities need moving as well...which is where hold ups can occur.Dont forget to move the floodlights as well.

I don't think owners work like that. Isn't Lansdown asking for investment at the moment? He is looking either for a very wealthy and large investor or, IF deemed good enough then he will sell. The interview was on points west

Like buying a house and letting the owner have a room or two, FOC No such things as shareholders then where capital is paid in exchange for a percentage ownership of a business. A new investor could come and buy 40% of us leaving Wael as the owner with a controlling share and be joint minority owner.

The cost of that would be somewhere in the region of £50m + loss of revenue. What is your projected seat capacity? What else are you putting into the stadium in terms of additional revenue to recoup those costs and losses?
