Lots of talk on Twitter that Antony Sweeney will be joining us from Hartlepool as a player/assistant manager - possibly to be announced on Monday. Few people on the Hartlepool forum are also saying this and all seem to speak highly of him and say he's just gone a bit 'stale' there. 30 year-old CM, 6ft 1, 52 goals in 382 appearances for Hartlepool. Sounds like a good signing to me if this does turn out to be true. A box-to-box CM who chips in with a few goals and will provide experience in the centre of the park. Thoughts? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antony_Sweeney

Have heard of him before. Whilst he may kinda fit the journeyman role I trust Clarke and as assistant manager could make sense. I'd like having two young, enthusiastic guys as our first team management. I'd be very happy with this.

I would be very interested in how we are identifying new signings with a young inexperienced manager, no dof and no scout. Hopefully Clarke has good knowledge and contacts. Feel really uneasy about it and hope we look beyond players he knows from former clubs. Time will tell

Where would this leave Stewart? Id rather have an experienced number two. Its all about recruitment for us. That aside maybe he has massive scouting knowledge ? Contacts for loan Signings etc ?

Played for Hartlepool his whole career but only managed 13 appearances last season according to Wiki. Was he injured?
Seems like a good signing on paper and would know DC too. Would be happy if he is fit and can play 30+ games.

www.hartlepoolmail.co.uk/sport/football/hartlepool-utd/cooper-looks-to-tie-down-his-wanted-men-at-hartlepool-united-1-6611539A couple of 'minor' injuries at the start of last season - a groin (and then calf problem) in August that led to him missing 6-7 weeks and only playing minor sub roles in the next two months. His next (and only) start was mid-Dec against Cheltenham. Not too bad until you then realise that takes him to over half his total appearances for the season with half the season still to go....worse still, the rest of the season was also minor sub appearances. 'Nasty looking' injury in March ended his season early. In total, 22 appearances last season (and a fair chunk were minor sub appearances). He might help us out and I hate to pre-judge, but... ...if he's supposed to be the solution on the pitch, we're recruiting yet another player who couldn't and/or didn't play much in the previous season. That gamble never works out for us... ...if he's supposed to be the solution off the pitch I'll be happier...but Sam Collins took on additional coaching responsibilities at Hartlepool at the end of the season (ahead of/instead of Sweeney) and I guess it would then mean Marcus is leaving...?

Certainly wouldn't worry about Marcus leaving. Don't rate him as a coach anyway.

Certainly wouldn't worry about Marcus leaving. Don't rate him as a coach anyway. Record as a goalscorer, excellent. Record coaching others to score (under the previous 'regime(s)' at least), abysmal. More worried about signing another injury-prone player into a club that has a habit of players getting injured...

Strange analysis of Stewies coaching ability imo. Strikers need service to score. We don't provide any. People are free to chat about coaching badges etc but I'd rather have a proven scorer who commands respect. Plus he is a Rovers man, kind of. Same goes for Kitey. Apparently our injuries were down to the treatment staff etc? I just see an angry fan base throwing blame in every direction.

Its unfair to blame Stewart if we are saying its not Clarkes fault. I think we either blame them both or give them Both a chance. A good coach cant turn tripe into rump steak they need something to work with.

According to a bloke on twitter who has spoken to Sweeney's father-in-law, he's off to Carlisle and not us!
The madness of summer is upon us.

We need a couple of experienced older heads in with a mainly younger fitter squad. Hopefully the signings once they start will be coming in thick and fast.
