Last season Sunderland received 30m in a parachute payment from the Premier League. They also signed players like Will Gregg for 4m. With those resources available they should have gone straight back up last season. Now, the parachute payments have stopped, the financial belt is being tightened. They will soon lose most of the financial benefits they have over virtually every other club in Div 1. Is it any wonder Ross got the sack? I get your point. I am on the fence with this as it is a very difficult job when you take over a team who have just been relegated. The board and fans seem to always think it is their God given right to go back up. And like someone said Ross had a decent budget there. However with that comes heaps of pressure, and correcting the wrongs of previous. Of which, there were many at Sunderland.

As I said, 4m on Griggs. How much more on other players? In Div 1 any Board would expect promotion with those resources available. I am well aware that in football nothing is a given, but if anything I was surprised that Ross was still in charge at the start of the season.

I suppose you can't blame him for trying, but it gets a bit cringey when he talks up every job going as if it were his lifelong dream.

Funny really as I do see him, reasonably often, in a certain pet food store. Sometimes he will be fine to talk but on others, it’s obvious he wants to just get his stuff bought and go & ive learned when to chat & not but he has been pretty clear that he was enjoying being away from it. I got the distinct feeling that he was not looking to be back in the hot seat of ANY club. I guess that Sunderland are a true sleeping giant though. I do read anything on that site with caution though as we have seen, many times, they will use posts directly from fans forums.

Reading job just become available, much more convenient for Holloway's commute.

Wycombe's Ainsworth apparently being interviewed for the job, I wonder if he's capable of getting a team to play decent football, rather than the usual "avoid defeat at all costs" approach Wycombe always seem to have?

Reading job just become available, much more convenient for Holloway's commute. That would be a better fit for him. Whoever gets the Sunderland job will be expected to have them in the Championship playoff slots within two or three years, or be sacked. Reading are more realistic, although I'm guessing they pay a lot less.

Not according to Sunderland supporters. They tend to be thick as mince though, as do most football supporters to be honest.

Not according to Sunderland supporters. Nor Bolton's who were apparently glad to see the back of his negative football. Surprised they bothered interviewing Ainsworth as appointing Parkinson always seemed likely.

Ainsworth has worked miracles to get Wycombe where they are.
I don't like Ainsworth or Wycombe much but they seem to be doing better than most L1 sides with a lot smaller budget.
How they do it is irrelevant, or so a lot on here have been saying about us. You still have to stick the ball in the net to win games regardless of any tomfoolery...

He was released at the end of last season.
