Seems that this is the right place to post this. Was reading Sunday paper today and it had a small piece on the Cardiff v City match and had Lee J saying “As much as I’d love to spend £1billion of someone else’s money on top of players, I’m a believer in sustainability of the community and club.” I nearly choked on my coffee with laughter! I’d say what they are doing isn’t sustainable but perhaps it is. I guess it depends on how you define what’s sustainable. UTG!

It's when your billionaire owner writes off £80m worth of debt and keeps on doing it. So long as he sustains it, they can go to infinity and beyond. If he gets bored, they're basically Bolton.

Not really the same as Bolton because their liabilities exceeded their assets. If Steve Lansdown capitalizes his loans and then he or his family decide they no longer want to pour money into City an insolvency process is not needed. As genuine City fans they would presumably carry out a careful search for suitable new owners, agree a price, and those new owners would start off with no debt and a fine stadium.

He can hardly come out and say “If I spend 200% of income on players I know the owner will cover the shortfall” can he? City will never have to worry about sustainability while Lansdown is in charge. The interest he makes on his capital each year alone is probably more than enough to fund City’s misadventures season after season.

Exactly, that has to be their “worry”, although it’s not a worry really as, with his son firmly ensconced in the club hierarchy, it looks like the Lansdowns are going to be running City for as long as we remain at the mem. And that, in a nutshell, is the very epitome of the difference between us and them.

In some respects I say good luck to City. We would love to be in their position. They had the good fortune to find a wealthy benefactor who was willing to put huge sums of money into the club. We found a benefactor who magnificently raised expectations but through the non delivery of these expectations has left a disillusioned and embittered fan base.

UTG I’m sure you could be correct in a logical way but I’m afraid the emotional, tribal feelings of most fans might not agree.😉 UTG!

Of course football is an emotional tribal pursuit. I'm just reflecting on the facts. City have had a ton of investment -- we have not. City are striving to get in the Premiership -- we are not.
One day we may be lucky and find that benefactor who wants to spend lots of money on us. Until that day we will continue to play in L1 or L2. In the unlikely event that we get promoted this season,, very few of the current squad are Championship calibre. Just being realistic -- others may disagree.

If you offset an operating loss by a profit on buying/selling players, that’s sustainable. Thats what they did in 2018/19 - made a £9m profit.
