I've got a similar issue but nobody could give a definitive answer other than when the squads are announced approx a week before.

I actually hope it does get called off, I would really like JCH back for this one, so by the time we play them in the rearranged game he will be fit

We will be missing Jaakkola I would imagine and, if JCH isn't fully fit, and possibly one or two others still struggling or even suspended - then perhaps it would be best called off, although Sunderland are not playing that well themselves at the moment. The downside of that of course is that Sunderland have just had ~£10m invested by their new owners and if we play them after the January window opens they will be stronger, and we might have lost JCH anyway.

Once the squads are announced Sunderland can then make their decision, if I was Parkinson with JCH unlikely to be fully fit and Jaaki also missing I'd play the game!

I think they have potentially four or five players called up, including one or two at U21 - but that thought crossed my mind too. Parkinson might want to keep his team playing, especially if they have a good result v Gillingham in the cup next weekend.

Since when has consideration for travelling fans been an issue?

Travelling down from Sunderland in January on a Tuesday sandwiched between two other league 1 fixtures might not be too appetising so can see the logic in playing on the Saturday.
Having said that if they feel significantly weakened by 4 players being unavailable then they will call it off.

They were living in Devon and Bristol including our ex striker Robbie Turner.

I can't imagine them having anything but a good result at home to Gills!

I'm sure he told me they had four, possibly five last time - but he might be exaggerating of course.

I assume they will be able to spend it within FFP rules as their turnover is pretty large.
