Yes GGMI. It occurred when a group of players, half dozen or so we're "embracing" each other. The no.2 Pierre who was being held, suddenly leapt up from a crouched position and butted Upson who fell backwards from the melee. So did Ricketts confuse Upson with Sercs as I can't see what the latter did wrong during the game? Think Ricketts is just a confused twat!

It will be worth it, having witnessed Ed pick Pierre up by his shirt and walk him backwards across the penalty box. An aggression/edge to every single one of our players, we weren’t really seeing under Darrell. Long may it continue. Really? no aggression from the team in the 4 good seasons? Where were you?

I’ve only missed 1 competitive game in 6 seasons. Darrell’s teams were in no way aggressive & were known to be bullied by streetwise teams in many of our defeats. The added bite, aggression and tendency to leave a foot in under GC was almost recognisable from the very first week of his tenure.

You cannot earn two promotions and 2 decent league one finishes without aggression in your team. I don't think a few players rushing around and pushing each other makes them all that tough. Truth is its just yet another snipe at the previous manager, even though the shrewsbury incident is nothing at all to do with him.

His teams were successful because they oozed quality back to front, yet many of these quality players did not ever like to put a foot in. Easter, Taylor, Bodin, Harrison, these weren’t hard players. Even our big burly CB’s in Parkes & Sweeney etc...were far from ‘enforcers’. Ollie Clarke being the only player from that era that loved a crunching tackle. Merely an observation, but this side under GC has become more aggressive in the tackle, love to press and on occasion, bully the opposition. Something we haven’t seen for many a year. So no need to become precious on me and think it’s in any way a dig at our hero Darrell. It’s part and parcel of different management styles. I just feel we are more than reaping the rewards of this current GC way.

I kind of see what you’re getting at and I’ve not seen as many games as you but at Mansfield in our promotion season, we were aggressive against an equally aggressive side. We won 4-3 I think and it was a feisty affair. Those occasions may not have been too often but we were aggressive when required. UTG!

I did notice one of the Shrewsbury players kick the ball at Tony Craig which hit him in the back. I expected carnage of biblical proportions at that point but Big Tone seemed to deal with it well. Luckily one Craig-esque glare at the player sorted it. The after effects of a Craig glare are yet to be fully understood. That poor Shrewsbury player will be in hospital before the week is out.

Players I feel that have added some needle to the side include JCH, Davies, Kilgour, Agogo and even Ed Upson himself now gets fully stuck in. Same applies to Sercombe. Something we didn’t ever see either of them do previously. This was an observation I first made after the Wimbledon away game, not just since we handbags at Shrews.

This was definitely for the headbutt then. I pointed this out on Saturday but nobody else seemed to pick up on it!!! (except Bideford it would seem). Can't believe it was missed. He was lucky to stay on the pitch, let alone to not even get a yellow!!!!! I saw it. One of the things I was going to do this week was try and record it from ifollow. One of the many things that didn't get done unfortunately.

Agree. Referee should have sent him off for punching towards the end of the fracas. I think it was him. if you review the fracas, most of the incidents were due to Shrews players although one could argue that Jakkola probably reacted too strongly to initiate the whole thing? Pierre should have been sent off later in the game for consistent fouling? UTG

I just feel we are more than reaping the rewards of this current GC way. Completely disagree. Foul count of 6 in Shrews match for us. We generally tend to have a very low foul rate in most matches. How many sent off this season - none? You can count on Ollie getting booked in every match but that is about it. Our players generally do not cheat and are very honest like most Rovers teams. This is very unusual for professional teams in these times and should be praised. Most of our fans appreciate this and in reverse do not like teams that try and cheat, eg. Wycombe, Always Cheating, etc. Teams like Rochdale are very honest teams like us. Other teams like Fleetwood? etc. are probably the opposite. The point is that if we are an honest team, then the likelihood is that we will rarely commit fouls unless 50/50 or so. Ollie I have noticed does seem to leave his foot there too many times and does rightly get booked for being too late. I find that in most matches the opposition are far more physical and stronger than us, especially in midfield with the exception of Agogo. And that is one of the reasons the fans have grown to like his tenacity and fighting spirit. Our defence like most defenders can hold their own; Alfie and Craig with Rollin now adding extra. Rollin has been outstanding in last 2 games vs Bromley and Shrews away and has strengthened the right side and also given Little the freedom to play further up which is more his game as shown vs Shrews where he was outstanding on right wing. Most teams outmuscle us; that is why having JCH in the team restores some balance. MK Dons were physically probably one of the weakest teams we have faced this season. Plymouth on Sunday will probably not dominate but match us for physicality? UTG

Just a thought regarding the match. Clearly it was a bad tempered game and some players got carried away. Their are some teams that we historically battle on the pitch (eg Wycombe) and others not. I wasn't aware that we had historical problems with Shrewsbury but perhaps somebody might know differently.

I wasn't aware that we had historical problems with Shrewsbury but perhaps somebody might know differently. It wasn't at all bad tempered just the one incident getting blown out of all proportion. I can't recall one bad foul in the whole match, in fact I think only OC was booked, and that was more for a high boot rather than bad challenge.

Combines well with Ud Epson. Now, this is one for Countdown. What can we come up with, with the letters in both names combined?

Shrewsbury Town are appealing the suspension: www.shrewsburytown.com/news/2019/november/sam-ricketts-on-pierre-suspension/According to Ricketts: “Aaron Pierre got sighted for a supposed head-butt,” said Sam. “He was trying to break up the melee which was a result of the referee not giving a penalty on the weekend.
“The FA have gone back over the footage and deemed that he’s tried to head-butt one of their players. That is the furthest from the truth, he wasn’t aggressive before or after the incident.
“He was trying to separate players, let alone instigate anything. We have appealed and we will have to wait and see what the outcome is.”
