Less than a month until the window, think it's that time to be having the conversation again. What position(s) do you think are needed? I think a striker is almost definitely priority, although that would leave us with 6 strikers, we need to get rid of Nichols, which would leave us with 5 (counting Moore who's back from loan in a month or two I think), and since 2 are on loan long-term that would leave us with 3 strikers long-term. The absolute priority has to be keeping hold of JCH. What does everyone else think?

Left wing.
I dont think weve played a left winger all season so GC prefers horses for courses in this position over the current options available.

We should get in a couple of left backs as you can never have too many!

Not that I want to see him go & I’m sure I’ll be alone in this, but if we receive a £2m+ offer for JCH early in the window then I think we should seriously consider accepting it.
Any club interested in purchasing him will have had scouted him extensively during his time here, and probably noticed that the lad hasn’t been fully fit for about... 8/9 months? GC jokingly said himself before the Plymouth match “is Jonno ever 100% fit?!” That’s going to make clubs cautious to come in with really big offers, IMO.
So if GC were promised 30-50%+ of any fee we received for the transfer kitty, then I’d feel confident he & Widdrington could do some damage with that kind of money behind them in January and the summer - not just for replacing JCH, but improving the squad overall.
As for my priorities for January, my top 3 (in order) would be: 1. Creative #8 2. Striker 3. CB

We need much the same as we have done for the last two windows. Midfield creator, possible striker (but we need to move a couple on first) and some width but again I’m not sure that GC would agree or would play them. We’re just behind the play offs so I’m not sure with us getting some good results that we’ll see much transfer action. Like last year, probably need to get one out for one to come in. UTG!

Will be a hard sell to any creative midfield players or wingers.
"look sonny you wont be playing because i don't like you wimpy wingers and creative midfield players but sign for us anyway"
If rodman who is a decent wide player cannot get into this team then there is no point in any winger coming here. And chris lines is still a better footballer than any other midfield player at our club right now. Opinion of course.

Creative midfielder and a striker. Been obvious for a very long time that is what's needed. I would even suggest two creative midfielders and would have to be two strikers as well if JCH is off.

I guess that depends on what you class as a "footballer" one who can pass a ball 100 yards but goes missing for 75% of a game or one who plays 100% the the whole game? We seem to be more effective with the latter this season than the former last season. Assuming GC intends sticking with wing backs when we really need a bit more creativity in midfield, also back up for Little at RWB if Hare is going to be out 'til Easter. moving out Nichols & Bennett has to be a priority then replacing the former with an experienced striker.

Id also like a left winger, we have 4 ok centre halves, and I think one of the young'uns could become commanding, shame our first choice full backs aren't ever fit, we do have ok cover. And always a striker.

Little was surely brought in as 1st choice right back?

Priority for me would be to get Bennett off the wage bill ideally Nicholls too but the latter is a favourite of the Manager so probably not realistic.
Attacking Midfielder is up there and indeed a striker.
I actually think JCH might stay …. Not sure if clubs will take a gamble on his fitness unless they get him really cheap. Ivan Toney / Mo Eisa surely would be better targets for a Championship team but sadly their Club push a hard bargain and make fortunes from selling making them less attractive potentially.

Shame for Bennett. The managers tactics are to keep it as defensive and tight as possible, so the only way he will get on is if we are chasing when a couple of goals down. I am sure with a run of games he can help unlock and be creative, but it wont be with us under GC.

It is interesting to see the various views on what players and what positions we need to strengthen in the January window. Perhaps, more importantly, is how much Wael has available to spend?
