Sunderland are willing to let him go, having signed a one year contract last July. He seems out of favour with them now and at 33 years old, past his best. However, that should mean that it is not totally unrealsitic for us to bring him in, provided we could get him on loan until the end of the season when he would become a free agent. His wages will obviously be a problem, but he will no doubt be aware of having to accept a pay cut wherever he ends up going in the Summer. So playing regular football will be in his best interest.
I think he would be a useful addition, and would provide the creativity we are lacking.

Not a hope in hell, we haven't the budget for such a signing. He'll end up North of the Boarder.

Someone well past their best, playing for a club in our own league. Sounds Perfect :/

Mark walters was 35 when he came to use and played on until a few weeks short of his 38th birthday. Looking at the stats I am actually surprised he had not scored more, but regardless, my memories remain of some of the best goals from free kicks I have ever seen for the Gas. A real joy to watch!

100%.
Hopefully we can try and pip Liverpool to Minamino whilst we’re at it.

I would think he would be well out of our price range wage budget wise, even at this stage of his career.

More chance of Eoin Doyle ... watch this space ! No chance of this, has already featured for Bradford and swindon so can't play for a 3rd team this season under efl/ fifa rules

Good player, skilful and on paper looks the sort that we should like. But financially, out of our league I would think. The current owners look unlikely to sign any expensive players. Would he be GCs kind of player? I don’t think so and my memories of Derek Riordan still gives me shivers. I know he’s a different kind of Scottish player but he’s unlikely to come so far south I would have thought. And if we were to make it such an attractive issue with the wages (which I think is unlikely with our owners) what would the other players think. One of the reasons for our relative success is the closeness of the squad. Poor GC, with hindsight, has been left with some very high earners who seem to be outside the team or on the edge of it and are certainly not players who are playing a large part in our success. Imo of course!😉 So it would be a no from me, would rather see us looking at players on the way up, not players, looking for a good contract at the back end of their careers. (And before anyone points out Tony C, I see that as a totally different proposition and a player who has been well worth whatever we are paying him, helping our younger defenders) UTG!

Well bennett is on 9k a week so we get him out of the door and bring mccready in. He wont actually play any games of course because we play 3-5-2 which would not suit the lad.

So he's too old for Sunderland but he's off to command high wages up north... I'm not really bothered about him coming here but are there many northern teams lower than Sunderland in the league who could afford him?
