Don't know how these things work but tonight Wikipedia is saying,
' Graham Coughlan (born 18 November 1974) is an Irish professional football manager and former player who played as a centre back. He is the manager of League Two club Mansfield Town. '

The thing I am struggling to work out in all of this is why did he say anything about leaving in his after match interview. He said he wanted to go home and be with his family and think things over. That's fine and his prerogative, but if he intended making a decision on Sunday, Monday whatever, why say anything now? He could have conveyed his thoughts and feelings to he owners in private and left it at that. It's all very strange. I have to say I thought the same

Saying one thing in private to them, and coming out and making the whole fan base panic are two different things. Not that I have any idea, just speculating of course.

I have to say I thought the same I am a bit of an old cynic (and just my own thoughts) but I did think it could be some kind of message that he would be interested in the job, didn't Mansfield then sack their manager later on? The club had already rejected an official approach from Mansfield so pretty sure there would have been contact and discussion between GC’s agent and Mansfield during the previous week - I don’t think he needed to make Mansfield aware of his availability in an after match interview and that would be unlikely to have been a factor in the timing of the decision to sack their existing manager. Just my opinion and interpretation of what has been reported of course!

The thing is, he could well have killed his career with that interview.
Surely his position here is now untenable and if he goes to Mansfield there is no guarantee that he will hit that magic formula he has with us.
Football is all about reputation and momentum and just sometimes getting lucky. Having just the right players and a bit of luck.
I'm sure many managers will admit everything only aligns a handful of times in their careers.
To shoot himself in the foot when right on the brink of something that could have made his name is utterly bizarre.

Derek Adams? My god are you having a laugh or do you want us back in the Conference (or whatever it's called)? Fortunately Morecombe are saddled with that twat. Out board wouldn't pay compo to get him, would they? Id go for Nathan Jones or that young coach Bentley. I think it will be difficult for GC to remain after what's happened. I wonder if he has in fact shot himself in the foot, what with an imminent take over, FM stadium and everything.

Said he needed to go home and make some decisions, we’ll I think the decision had already been made, this is what does not sit right with me, not very professional n my opinion

So, whats going on then? Surely he's told the club at this point that either he's staying, he's resigning or we've accepted an approach from Mansfield.
Yet as f*cking usual we've heard nothing. The club really should have made a statement last night, yet here we still are wondering wtf is going on.

You cant say that in public in an interview and ever return as manager here.I will be very upset if he does tbf, whatever the situation is - be it family or our owners. And if he thinks that the fans havent supported him thus far, picture if he stays now and we lose 4/5 games in a run.. It wont end well for him as he will have a bulls eye on his back. I thank him for his efforts and getting us to 4th but there was no need to go public like yesterday and it very unprofessional in my view.

This is the issue, whatever the reasons for wanting a move, however valid, it could have been done in a professional way. The only reason for saying anything is to force a move.

Love the way Mansfield fans think we haven't got a pot to p1ss in w/o knowing anything about our owners finances.

I'm not sure Coughlan would have been very happy with Widdrington's massive 2 day interview with the Bristol Post last month. If ever there was a job application in the public domain that was it. I wouldn't be surprised if Widdrington isn't in charge for the Cup tie on Tuesday night, he obviously wants the job and I'm not sure the people now running the club will know where to go next. I suppose if it's not Widdrington with their connections in the game they could go for Derek Adams.I’d rather have Buckle back as manager rather than that.....gentleman! UTG! that was a joke by the way. edit: sorry to gas365 and wilmslow, just seen their similar comments, have to agree.
