Went to the club shop to buy my young nephew his first Rovers shirt for Christmas, having watched his first game away at Shrewsbury last month he loved the yellow shirt and his mother suggested that would be his favourite, happy memories and a Christmas morning surprise. When I got to the shop I was told there are no yellow replica shirts on sale only the blue black away shirts which would mean nothing to him. When I got home I looked at the fixture list, of the away games we play 9 teams play in blue/dark blue and therefore the only top we can play in is yellow. For 43% of our away games, the blue black away shirt is redundant. You would hope that the commercial department would take all of this into account before plunging into the design of an away shirt that only represents the club at 50% of away games. I thought we had a more switched on commercial department now with Premier League experience that would push the commercial side forward.

Yep, they were designed to be a limited edition third shirt with the proceeds from the auction at the end of the season going to the princes trust.

With respect, if ever a thread summed up the 'any reason to moan' ethos that seems to blight an element of our fan base this is it! The club made it VERY clear when they released the yellow 3rd kit that it would not be made available to purchase to the masses, but rather it was to have a limited replica release with all profits going to charity.. In an age of certain clubs (naming no names of course..) having 3 new kits every single season and charging £50+ to purchase any one of them, I actually found it a really refreshing approach. Yes we need a 3rd kit, but that does not mean we have to use it as an excuse to bleed the fans for some extra cash, lets instead use the opportunity to benefit a charity both financially and in terms of publicity.

It's almost as if they've deliberately created a high demand for the yellow shirts in a bid to make them more valuable for when they auction them for charity at the end of the season.

I guess you don't have a young child to buy for? I think you and others are missing the OP's point. He wants to happily buy his nephew the away top that he saw at his first ever away game and the one that he may well often see on highlights. But he can't. He's not annoyed as such at the tops being auctioned for charity, nor is he complaining about the price, or being out of stock, the size not available, the shop being closed by the time he's finished work or even the price of fish, but about the FACT that he can't make a young Gashead happy by buying a normal, full priced top for him; something that usually happens millions of times a year all over the planet. I'm think we can all agree that although the dark blue away kit is sweet to look at it IS pretty impracticable and as soon as we saw it we all knew that it would not be used much as an actual football kit. It would therefore make sense to have the one that is worn most on sale so that normal, average, working fans can buy it for themselves or their loved ones.

I too am disappointed these shirts aren't available, as someone who likes to collect Rovers shirts I'd like to have been able to get one.
This shirt is so much nicer than the strange blue one, my kids are both having home shirts for christmas, I gave the option of the blue one but they didn't want it.
I get the idea of the charity auction but don't see why they couldn't have at least made kids replicas available as there is no cross over.
[The shirt is a macron template shirt, if you search macron alhena then you will find the exact shirt available to buy but without the club badge and sponsor.]

On a positive note, my Dad took me to my first game in the 1990/91 season, I cherished the programme from that day in which there were team photos of the squad in the home kit and in the away kit. I always wanted an away shirt from that season but didn't have one (I still have my home shirt, but being a child's size it is too small for me now). I have just finally managed to get myself that away shirt nearly 30 years later. Maybe your lad will follow Rovers over the years to come and one day get that shirt and it'll mean more to him than it would have if he had got it at the time. Hope you can getting him something Rovers related that will put a smile on his face.

When did we as a society stop understanding that children can't have everything they want?

When did we as a society stop understanding that children can't have everything they want? From a commercial point of view it is as simple as "supply and demand". I doubt Rovers are deliberately holding stock back (to basically lose money) to increase demand for charity at the end of the season. It just seems like (again) not enough stock has been brought in to cover demand. I thought we had moved on from the shambles of the 2015 playoff final... OP - Have you tried e-mailing the Gorringe to ask when stock will be topped up, if at all? Too late for Christmas, I suspect - but you might be able to get one in the New Year? *EDIT* Thanks for pointing out that the yellow kits are actually specifically kits made for charity and only a limited number will be available for auction at the end of the season for charity. I totally forgot about this! www.bristolrovers.co.uk/news/2019/september/third-kit-reveal/

There was never any intention to have these commercially available. It's simply a way to boost the amount earned for the charity.

Indeed that's the diametric opposite of what the club announced when the yellow kit was released.

They were never going to sell them, there's not 'stock' to top up, there's no commercial decision to be made, how hard is it to understand.

The rarer the kit the (ie the less it is worn / seen) the better for me personally. I could not care less if we do not actually often wear our navy away kit for matches, it is still absolutely beautiful and I would bet one of our best selling kits for years.

First and foremost, if you really want the yellow kit then you CAN purchase it! You will have to bid for it and the profits will go to charity. All about opinions I guess, but how you can honestly think that the yellow generic kit is nicer than the unique dark blue kit? We have had several yellow kits in recent years and I for one was delighted that we went a different way this year. Also, the Macron alhena template you reference is not available in our navy / ice blue away kit colour way but actually is in our yellow 3rd kit colourway... So in fact, our blue away kit is more unique than the 3rd.
