Evening sorry to get involved in the thread lol but wanted to answer this question. Coventry had almost no players on contracts when Mark Robins took over and we essentially started again in league 2.. We started looking at players from non league and league 1/2 and recruiting mostly under 25s on fair wages for this level. We only live within our means now although we usually have to sell as and when a good offer comes in for a player as we can't refuse. Robins has adopted a philosophy along with viviesh (former Chelsea coach) and all the players buy into it from the day they arrive. Mccallum the left back is 19 from Mickleover, Dabo the right back was from Chelsea academy,Shipley is an academy product, rose was from the Scottish championship and Hyam was to be released from reading... Some of these players have been together a couple years now and it's paying off as we are ever improving, although today we were sloppy at times we always try and stick to Robins way and philosophy. Our wage bill is currently around 2 million pound a season. We recruit very wisely these days Buy young and cheap, sell high is our way now Fair play to your club I thought that although your defenders didn’t look very comfortable with playing out from the back your midfield and attacking players were all very comfortable on the Ball, played with pace and organisation , the one touch passing up the field on the counter will cause every team in this division trouble if today was anything to go by. Usually they are all much more comfortable but I suppose every game is different... I will add that Bristol is a difficult place for us to play and the last 2 times I've been you've comfortably beat us... Bit of a bogey ground for us

Yes once at St Andrews and again today! So do Coventry spend their money more wisely on better footballers, or will they eventually do a Bolton/Bury when they finally lose their case v Coventry Council and run out of money? Just a pity JCH was as interested in the 2nd half when playing in front of his home fans as he was in front of his former club's in the first half. Somehow he's gone from unplayable to another Ryan Brunt since his last injury. JVS' performance must have been the best by a Rovers goalie this season, it was pretty much faultless from the first minute to the last. He's always been a player I thought we should sign, our defence did well to keep him mostly quiet. I don't get all the messing about at the back with the goalie, your the only L1 team who seem to play from that deep and I can't recall ylou doing that at St Andrews earlier in the season? How may home fans do you expect at St Andrews for the replay? Why did your fans boo JCH from the start, I can't recall him leaving you on bad terms, it seemed a bit odd to me?

To keep the ball on the deck and play a style anything other than long and direct as we have done until now you’ve got to attack as a team and defend as a team .
That means not leaving a massive gap between your midfield and attack when your defending and attacking.
This is the main problem at the moment. Their first goal was scored because our midfield were stood on our defenders toes and also we’r not creating chances by passing it about because our midfield are too slow to get out away from our midfield and support our attack once we win the ball.
Same formation , same players , different style , we’re not smashing it at JCH anymore the the players need to be on their toes and looking for the ball looking to create space for themselves we are very stationary you’ve only got to look at the way Fleetwood MK and Coventry today attacked to see how it’s done. I think they’ve got to used to just the big kick at JCHs head and forgot how to look for the shorter ball.
They need coaching in to a different way and it’s going to take time and some new players for sure.

Godden cost 750k, although we had just sold Connor Chaplin and bayliss for a combined 3 million so it helped fund that, we played 433 earlier on in the season but switched to a 3421 around October time... Its doing us well if we win our game in hand we go a point off top. In regards to the style I think it works, pulls teams forward creates space in midfield and tires forwards and midfielders who chase the ball.. We were slightly off colour today but could have scored 3 or 4 although that volley from your lad that hit the post could have totally changed the match if it went in. Your keeper also made some good saves. Not sure about JCH, he's always had a bit of a bad attitude and you rarely see the best of him... On his day he's a real player who will cause havoc but he tends to think he's above his station 90% of the time, he's a local lad too... I'm guessing it's just part of the banter that happens at matches these days In regards to the replay, I'd be Suprised if there was any ore than 3/4000 of our lot at St Andrews

It seems we're now seeing that side of JCH!
It'll be interesting to see if you can keep your promotion push going with such a low playing budget.

You play some good football considering your budget. I think you were very lucky to still have 11 players after the penalty incident, that being said you were definitely the better team, and expect you to win the replay. I can see why you are where you are and this league is wide open this season, with no one team taking it by storm, so who knows? Personally think Oxford will win it.

The squad is actually very strong in depth which is probably going to be key, we've rarely had that here over the years. Biamou Jamie allen Callum o hare Jordy Hiwula Josh Pask Bakayoko Brandon Mason Kastaneer Jodi Jones All players I'd feel comfortable rotating through the squad as and when required. Long season ahead still... Although we'd have to find some 15 million pound to compete even if we managed a promotion

PS : Tom Davies is a proper lad, loved him at the city He was brilliant before he got injured but we’ve done alright without him too thanks to the big black lad Rollin mayense from the youth team who came in and has done alright, he played today. Well be more solid once Davies is back though.

I got the impression it’s around mid table but I’ve got no idea what it actually is. Our turnover in the last accounts was just under £6m assuming we topped out under SCMP/FFP rules at the 60% max then that's around £3m/£3.5m, although turnover may have dropped since the last accounts (or equally increased!) Cov's £2m seems low or our players are under achieving.

Ok I moaned about the manager after the last game which I still feel was justified, however well done today, that was a solid performance and a game that he could have had his first win. But I am still not convinced he’s the right man for the job so BG please prove me wrong

I was / am a IH fan; however, Ben speaks well, has a plan, comes across as a really decent fella, we all need to get behind him and give him a decent crack, lets hope he does well. Utg

Yesterday you played really well again - everything seemed to go through Walsh. He's a Championship player. I think you have a really good chance for the top 2, and the least in the top 6. It's going to be a very interesting finish as we can expect Sund, Pompey and Ipswich to stay in the hunt. Oxford, like Coventry, play nice, flowing football.

I guess it just shows how close this league is. We could have won yesterday, we could have lost. We made Coventry look better than perhaps they are by giving them so much room in midfield. They looked pretty average in defence which is surprising because their record is fairly good. Just goes to show that in this league anyone can beat anyone else, with the exception of Southend perhaps (although even they gave us a nasty shock before we recovered). UTG!

Then again it could have been 4-2 but for an inspired performance by JVS with the whole forum in melt down today. The save with his foot and the block at the depth were as equally as good as Anssi's recent wonder saves.

And yet MK dons gave us a right lesson and are 21st. And we also got a lesson from you lot in August!
