Clearly a dig at me there Yatton. I would have thought the fewer covid deaths was more important than number of positive covid tests. Can't remember the last time France recorded zero deaths recorded in a day or even single figures. But hey if you want to compare numbers, UK total tests 191 Million,France 87 Million, UK total cases 4.5 Million, France 5.7 Million. We were out with French friends the other night who work in hospitals. I asked them how they record here a covid death, I was basically told "someone who has died from Covid". When I told them how the UK records a covid death (someone who has died of "any" cause within 28 days of a positive test) they laughed and said if France did that the number of covid deaths would be doubled. Also due to their "human rights" there are nurses in the local hospital who flatley refuse the vaccine and some who refuse to be even tested. Our friends father who is in a nursing home recently caught covid (thankfully he is double jabbed so he wasn't severely ill) by a nurse coming in who has refused the vaccine and turned out to be covid positive. A vast number of people locally here are refusing the vaccine and are holding out for Sanofi to come out their vaccine. Good luck on that one!! But if you really think Macron has handled this well and better than the UK try telling that to the locals. Go Boris !! I don't think any Government anywhere in the World should be declaring victory yet,it is evident that we are not out of this and an exercise in caution all the way round would be sensible, whilst we would all love to go on hols if we have to miss another Summer to consolidate our hard fought gains is that a train smash?. As for whose done better,no room for self congratulations anywhere from what I can see other than the odd exception, time to learn and be better prepared next time. Yes Clive Lets not degenerate into a "look who has had more / less deaths, by country". Its demeaning. We are talking about real people here, with family and loved ones.

I see France has less positive covid tests than the UK . Not bad for a country that’s doing appallingly (according to some) compared to Boris Johnson’s UK 🇬🇧 Go Boris ! Doesn't that depend on how many tests they have done? % of cases to tests would be more relevant. Not really. That was more of an issue during lockdown 1, the beginning of the pandemic when no one had widespread testing. If you did % of tests vs positive cases then you’d have countries who’re in a great place conduct say 1000 tests, but 100 test positive - that would make the numbers look really high, at 10%. But in reality they’re doing a fantastic job that they only need to had 1000 tests, presuming they have wide spread testing available (which most countries do). At this point cases will be pretty accurate as a % of a population, for deaths - excess deaths is still they key indicator. Frances friends point on deaths doubling is a hugely exaggerated point, it would barely go up.

Agree with excess deaths,as Les has said it's not a race to the top/bottom we need to learn as this isn't going anywhere soon.

Interesting answer from Hancock when questioned over lockdowns.
Basically said the government weren’t sure how people would tolerate lockdowns at first, but now they realise people will do whatever they won’t hesitate to do it again if needed.

Almost certain that the 21 June reopening will be delayed, possibly for 4 weeks.
Delta variant cases triples in a week, not looking good.

Which is the right call, but it just annoys me that when everyone could see the clear rise of the Indian variant and cases, Boris had to of course deny it and say there isn’t any data to suggest we need to delay the 21st of June. 2 weeks later and here we are. Would it not just be simpler to say from the beginning, that “if cases rise then we will have to, it’s always been the case. We’ll be monitoring it very closely from here”? It just suggests that he/they really don’t have a clue

From a purely selfish view I have a total hip replacement due on the 30th having waited for 2 years and 3 postponements, the pain is now getting unbearable so hard to cope with another postponement.

It's a tough one. Cases rising, but admissions and deaths staying fairly flat, meaning I think, those catching it are young enough to fight it off without the need for Hospital care, or the vaccine is doing it's thing. Everybody could catch it but as long as conditions stay the same, is that reason to keep the "open up" on hold?

Good luck matey, hope no side effects. Sorted! Pfizer 😊 The guy there said as it’s a walk in centre it’s worth coming around 5/6pm in about 5/6 weeks as they very often have spares - so will give that a go

Sooner 2nd jabs are sorted the better. Beer to celebrate?

Just been talking to the Landlady at my local Greene King, and Head Office have tentatively told her to expect the restrictions to stay in place until 19th July. Not saying that's gospel, just passing on what I've heard.

Remember there’s about a two week lag on numbers we’re seeing now and admissions. AZ 69% effective, Pfizer 88% ( approx I think ) on those double dosed. With the numbers rising as fast as they are , that’s an awful lot of people that could be in real trouble. It’s simple maths.
