Another reason to get vaccinated, herd immunity is not realistic according to this academic. "Herd immunity is "not a possibility" because the Delta variant is still spreading fast and infecting fully vaccinated people, the head of the Oxford Vaccine Group has said. Professor Sir Andrew Pollard told MPs in the All-Party Parliamentary Group on coronavirus that although 95% vaccination would stop transmission of measles, the same was not true for COVID. He warned that this means "anyone still unvaccinated at some point will meet the virus"." news.sky.com/story/covid-19-herd-immunity-not-a-possibility-with-delta-variant-says-head-of-oxford-vaccine-group-12378242

Fake news from China? "Chinese state media has been accused of spreading fake news and attempting to discredit the World Health Organisation after quoting a Swiss biologist who does not appear to exist. Media outlets including the People’s Daily, China Daily and the state-run CGTN television network had widely quoted “Wilson Edwards”, who was said to have claimed that the US government had pressured the WHO to investigate the theory that Covid-19 was first leaked by a laboratory in Wuhan." www.thetimes.co.uk/article/china-accused-of-coronavirus-lab-leak-fake-news-over-non-existent-swiss-biologist-g6rxv2gm2

Just listening to 5Live and they’re talking about herd immunity and how it’s not possible with the variants. The interviewer asked about those who can’t have the vaccine due to allergies or vulnerability etc - his reply was either they stay in a bubble for the rest of their lives, or they catch the virus.
Edit: it was Paul Hunter

Had my 2nd jab this morning, chatting to one of the stewards outside he said it’s been quiet the last few days, with hardly anyone coming for their 1st jab now.
Realistically surely everyone who wants the jab has had at least 1 by now though.

Realistically surely everyone who wants the jab has had at least 1 by now though. News saying 3 out of every 4 adults now double jabbed. So it's bound to be slowing down. Good luck to the anti-vaxers.

Agree totally why should the majority suffer due to the actions of a few. Obviously I sympathise with those who can't take the vaccine for health reasons but those who refuse it....well that's another story. Maybe they should just look at the stats how many people have died without the vaccine compared to those fully vaccinated.

From Sky News:
"More than 84,000 deaths prevented thanks to UK vaccine drive
Jenny Harries, deputy chief medical officer for England, said that 23 million COVID infections and 52,000 hospital admissions for the over-65s have also been prevented due to the vaccination roll-out.
She said: "Huge model data, really interesting, really shows the effectiveness of the UK vaccination programme."
Some 89.1% of British adults have so far received a first dose of the vaccine, with 75.3% now fully vaccinated."

Bloody hell ! 170 deaths today I'm not sure that's an acurate figure for last night. Worldometer showed 170 but then went on to explain why certain elements were included. Link below if you're interested. Scroll down to Latest News. www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/uk/

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-58259604Most Tory MPs did not wear face masks during a packed Commons debate, despite government guidance to do so in crowded areas. More opposition MPs than Conservatives covered their faces, as MPs sat shoulder-to-shoulder to discuss developments in Afghanistan. ——— And they wonder why people don’t follow guidelines?
