Sol Campbell left one basket case club, Macclesfield, to another Southend. Is he a good manager ? It's hard to judge cos he's been canoeing without a paddle in both jobs it seems. You've got to admire his stickability - can't have been much fun in both clubs these past 2 seasons.

I think DC will turn it around over the coming months. He just loves a bad start.
I also think GC will be ok at Mansfield. I just don't buy into this 'he was lucky to have JCH and we would have been found out' idea.
At the time he found the lure of Mansfield irresistible, for reasons not really known, we were 4th and getting better game by game. JCH was out injured as often as he played, but we were still winning. He'd eased off on the cautious tactics and we were starting to play better.
As for BG, I can't see him turning anything around. I think he's lost the plot, if he ever had one. But he won't be sacked either, so well just have to hope for a miracle or proper assistant by August.

We lost GC and JD but only replaced with BG. BG had to leave for a while as well due to family illness, so we were left with a rudderless ship. I think BG deserves more time to put things right. We are going in the direction since he has returned.

Garner will turn it around despite the negativity of the armchair supporters.
If you had been at Wycombe or Tranmere you would have seen the missed oppurtunities. We should have scored at lease three at Wycombe and at Tranmere.
JCH by missing a penalty and a couple of one on ones has denied Garner his win and probably 4/5 points.
Figures banded around of 1-2 million for his transfer are a joke probably worth £300k tops and would not make it in the championship.
Garner now has around 16 say pre season games to build a squad that will challenge for promotion next season and play decent football.
Time for your horlicks -UTG

All three are safe this season. I suspect that all 3 will start the next season but expectations at all three clubs will be higher than just staying in the Division.
If I was betting, I'd predict GC first to go. The Mansfield owners have pumped a load of money into the club and are expecting results. If he doesn't achieve them before Christmas he will be gone.

Have to say that having looked him in the eye when he came over to us at Oxford that GC is a proper warrior and I wish him all the best regardless of the style of play.

This is going to be popular with some ! Who will be sacked first ? Ben Garner - League 1 W 0 D 4 L 6 Graham Coughlan - League 2 W 2 D 4 L 6 Darrell Clarke - League 2 W 11 D 7 L 15 (interestingly they've only scored 32 in 33 games). Looking at these records - all of them must be under pressure already. If I had to pick one - I'd go for Coughlan getting the chop at the end of the season as he was expected to do a lot better than he is. Funny old game :-). I'm expecting Garner to get 4 or 5 wins by the end of the season which will see us finish around 12-16th, whilst Darrell's mob will continue to win and lose to finish mid table and he'll be given another go in the summer. Yeah agree with that. I'm confident that unless something really goes tits up at Walsall, they'll give him another year. L2 is their natural level, I'd say, and after their relegation they wanted to completely rebuild. I still think he will do well there, but I must admit I was worried that he'd get sacked at one point. Apparently Mansfield have one of, if not the biggest budgets in L2. They're paying Maynard £4k a week apparently. They've been through quite a few managers in the last couple of years and if Coughlan doesn't pick up form soon I'd suggest he'll be gone. I disagree with 1981 above, Mansfield have a decent L2 team. Far better than bottom 4 that's for sure. Ben I think probably has another 5 games left. If we lose the next 5 or only pick up a couple of draws then surely his position as manager is untenable? This is walsall's 2nd season in league 2 in 26 years during which they also had a season in the championship. Not sure many of their fans would agree that league 2 is their natural level.

Reckon coughlan and clarke will get to start next season under pressure to be near the top of league 2. Garner is most likely to go imo.

Traditionally Walsall are viewed as a L1 club. Mansfield considered as a L2 club. Of course this is a traditional view. The Conference is full of ex league clubs who traditionally should be playing at a higher level.
