Finally got round to having a read of this thread and it’s got me thinking.
I can see both sides of this to be honest. On the one hand they are let’s be honest, going places. Sooner or later they will get to the Prem and potentially within 10 years could easily be a well established team there. Look at the likes of Leicester for example.
However I do not think we need that model to be successful ourselves.
A redeveloped Mem, purely as a football stadium (with maybe the odd stream of revenue added I.e the student digs etc) could easily see us as a successful and sustainable champ/prem club that would get younger fans coming in again.
I still believe young kids will follows there parents and families etc but they need a stadium to do it in. They don’t really care about complexes and add ons (at least not at a young age where they develop that affinity). It’s about the feeling you get when you walk up the steps and out into a stadium, that at that age feels huge. Not one where you can make out what the guy across the pitch has got in his sandwiches!
I have no desire to watch jorneyman footballers picking up 50k a week in some bowl in the middle of nowhere surrounded by KFC and TK Max outlets.
People will say that is a rose tinted view but I think it is perfectly achievable.
For me that would be a worthy future and in the heartland of our traditional area. I realise there is parking issues etc but nothing that couldn’t be overcome with planning.
What is clear though is without something happening off the pitch we will be left behind by everyone, let alone the Jones’ next door.

I say this it's our owners fault over the last 25years for not attracting investors to plough cash into the club and I say this with great sadness Exactly. Of course it doesn’t help us much if our nearest rivals build a fantastic infrastructure whilst we don’t. But that’s OUR problem not theirs and the dullards amongst our support having a go at Lansdown would be better serving us to turn their ire instead on the lying fantasist and coward (currently in hiding) that owns our club instead!

Jealousy is an awful trait, get a f**king grip! It’s not jealousy though is it, it’s seeing Rovers fall behind not just our cross town neighbours but clubs that have historically been below us with smaller fan bases, they get better infrastructure built whilst we play at at outdated ground and train on school pitches.

Yes it’s massively frustrating but we should be directing our anger not at other clubs owners but at our own.

Overheard a bloke on the Thatchers terrace yesterday blaming BCC for all our stadium problems over the years, Then went on a rant calling them communists bizarrely.
Out of interest have BCC ever rejected any of our stadium plans?

Out of interest have BCC ever rejected any of our stadium plans? Neither City or Rovers have ever had a planning application rejected by BCC. The bloke on the terrace is misinformed.

Fair play to them. Unfortunately we’ve chosen to support our team, who have lagged behind forever! We’ve never been a glamorous club, and doesn’t look like we ever will be. Oh well UTG

Jealousy is an awful trait, get a f**king grip! Just being realistic for the future of our club. If your happy that we'll be no more than a club like bath city in 20 years time then so be it.

He isn’t happy mate is he? He’s just saying that slagging Lansdown or any other clubs owners ain’t helping us is it? If we want to have a go at any club’s owners it should be our owners because in a nutshell they are Dam w**k and will see us like Bath City a lot faster than you’ve said!

Out of interest have BCC ever rejected any of our stadium plans? Nope, as far as I recall, the only formal application that was rejected was by Kingswood Borough Council in 1990 for the Carsons Road plan. Otherwise it was either over ambitious plans such as Avonmouth which only existed in artist impressions, changes of mind (North Stand dropped in favour of Opel back total redevelopment) or pure lack of money.

Bristol City Council have always been on our side in recent times and still are now with the Fruit Market plan BUT they weren’t helpful in the late 80’s when Bristol Stadium Ltd wanted us out of Eastville to sell and redevelop. The council leader at the time was Paul Smith an out and out shithead who did all he could to get the plans for redevelopment passed. The words he used at the time to justify was “a retail bridge” between the Cribbs Causeway Retail Park (pre Mall) and Broadmead. The City Council could have instead preserved the area for sports use as was the talk at the time but shithead Cllr. Paul Smith ensured that was rejected. Eastville was then lost to us and the city of Bristol as a long standing sports stadium much to the joy of Smith and his fellow Sh1!heads.

Makes me sick. They basically go ahead and achieve everything that we as a club strive for and make it look easy and it makes us look like complete dicks. I am so desperate for our club to actually get up off it's arse and start to move into the 21st century, so we can at least attempt to compete for younger and newer fans. Currently it's a write off unless parents can somehow persuade their youngsters to follow the Gas. Thing is they landed a billionaire , if they hadn’t Ashton fate would still be a shithole with no corporate hospitality. In the best case scenario we’d be bought by a billionaire who is nothing like Lansdown ie not turn it into a plastic sport franchise. If it ever happens then the Leicester way would be great , the shithead way would tear the soul out of our club. Chances are well keep on doing things the ragbag Rovers way though. I go to Ashton Gate frequently to watch the rugby and it’s a fabulous experience and it looks like it’s going to get better. This franchise nonsense is one of the many things which makes us look like small minded bigots and if I remember correctly we were full of it when we thought we’d been bought out by billionaires who were about to make us the sixth wealthiest club in Britain. We were going to get a new stadium, new team, new everything but no one was saying it would make us a “franchise” it was all about how we were going to shove it up them. As far as I can see City, a club which used to get 30000+ gates for big games 40 years ago hasn’t changed for its fans, other than its better, it’s ultimate owner embraces other Bristol sports and is developing them, two of which we lost as we’d ditched, the Women’s outfit and we’d effectively driven the rugby club to find a new home. i wish this forum would concentrate on Rovers and not concern itself about what’s happening across the city...all we do is give them ammunition to use against us and to have a good laugh at our expense.
