Ben on the off chance you do read this forum I wanted to just say well done. You put some fire back in bellies tonight and inspiring the players is half the battle in my eyes. Onto Ipswich and the same commitment is needed. I know you don’t need me to tell you any of that but it’s easy to say negative things so I wanted to say something positive.

Tonight has completely dismissed the suggestion that BG has lost the dressing room, they all fought his corner and put in a real shift to nullify the attacking threat of a promotion chasing Sunderland side.
I’m just hoping it gives us the confidence that we were lacking previously and that we can do something similar against Ipswich at the Mem on Saturday. UTG.

Credit where it’s due, that was quite a result. Well deserved from a team that gave their all. A few standout performances but everyone raised their game tonight, and Sunderland were poor and niggly compared to when we were at theirs. Well done gas!

Fair play he got everything spot on tonight.
If that conman Upson gets near the midfield again this year I’ll go nuts. The energy that Hargreaves bought to the midfield allowed OC to do what he does best which is break up play, simple passing and look to move the ball forward. It was exactly what we were missing for the last X number of games.
Bar putting Hare back in at RWB when he’s fit then he needs to stick with this side, keep it simple and demand the same work rate and it will get results.
One swallow and all that, but there were promising signs tonight.

Oh dear ! why spoil a great night in an up and down season. Because Hargreaves gave more energy in 5 mins than Upson has the last 4 months I said this pre match to my mate I knew we would play a hell of a lot better with upson out the team entirely. He is a passenger and is one of the main reasons why the midfield had been so so so poor

Disagree with that - Hargreaves didn't play in Upson's position. He was mainly wide right in a 5-2-3 but his energy certainly made a difference.
Thought man of the match should have been Jayden - ran himself into the ground and not surprised went off with cramp!

Thought man of the match should have been Jayden - ran himself into the ground and not surprised went off with cramp! I didn’t say that he was playing Upson a role. Our midfield with Upson in it is turgid, lifeless and goes nowhere. It forces OC to play forward more as Upson is no longer the box to box type he was 5 years ago when he got promoted to the championship with Yeovil. He likes to be the creative anchor. Putting Hargreaves in meant we played with more energy in the middle. OC could play the holding role which is exactly the type of player he is and all of a sudden with Sercs as well we were getting forward with a whole lot more energy than we were. The amount of times Hargreaves was buzzing around the 18 yard box and then helping out defending was countless. It’s been exactly what we were missing all these games. I hope he gets another chance and also can keep up that level of intensity to his game. JML also had a good game I will agree.

One win don't make you a winner [jury still out] - but good solid performance that rewarded us who attended yesterday evening. Sad to see so many empty seats up where we sit.

Let's see if they carry on the same on Saturday when they's no pre arranged team photo to take at the end of the game, I'm starting to think it's player power the issue not down to BG.

Let's see if they carry on the same on Saturday when they's no pre arranged team photo to take at the end of the game, I'm starting to think it's player power the issue not down to BG. I think a lot of it was pride after losing to Southend and having a big game against a team like Sunderland. Well done for winning a big game and virtually confirming survival but I can’t help but feel a lot of gasheads are being extremely fickle and changing their views on the manager, chanting for him to wave, when after Shrewsbury they were baying for his blood so to speak. Zero consistency. He has won one more game and that brings his total to 2 in 20, 10%. That still keeps him well towards the bottom of the table for win ratios as Bristol Rovers manager. He did not take over a team losing game after game on a downward spiral, he took over a team on a significant winning run which placed us in 4th in the table and set us on a form which over the first half of next season could see us in a Southend situation. He has to do a lot more than beat Sunderland on a one off and beat 10 man Blackpool to prove he’s worthy of managing Bristol Rovers. I fear this win papers over the cracks and makes it more likely he will see through the summer where there’s a great chance he’ll do damage to what good is left of our playing and coaching teams, as so far he has still proven nothing in terms of his ability to affect us as a team through recruitment and tactical changes.

Great post, agreed it's all too easy to come on here and rant when we lose, and it needs more of us to post messages of positivity when we win.
Still got to keep our feet on the ground, and this needs to be a catalyst for improved performances until the end of the season, and if it does then I will be a whole lot more relieved going into preseason with Ben Garner in charge.
Credit where it's due for last night, and long may it continue. Well done Ben.

Why don't you go to games, support the team and see where we are at the end of the season ? This is a transition time - GC left us in the lurch. The club addressed the supporters' concerns about playing style etc. brought in a young hungry manager who is trying to bring more ball players through. Let's review at the end of the season.

Can we end the accusation of anyone who still has trepidation over BG that they don’t go to games? I was there last night.

Originally I was prepared to give BG a fair chance, then failure after failure turned me to join the many 'Sack BG' brigade but after last nights performance the pendulum is swinging back in his favour. Still a long way to go but if he can get the team to play like a team (I don't care if we lose as long as we try to play and get beaten by a better team) then he will get my support. It's funny that we seem to play better football against the better teams! Looking forward to Saturday now.
