Found this pic in my dads old album - a photo from some old printed image ? Can't find another image online ? Nice it has the team names. My Dad grew up on lower Stapleton rd - opposite the dogs kennels over the river ( pulled down that side the rd to make the M32 )! His adopted brother played pro football for Poole town ( Authur Sleigh ) before the war. eastville-rovers by Geoff Richings, on Flickr

Possibly the oldest Rovers team photo I have seen. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for posting. I bet they didn’t think standing there that 123 years later they were the vanguard. Great photo, bloke standing one in from the right looks like GCs great, great grandad. UTG!

In fact it could make for an interesting new thread. What the * did my mrs see in me when she first saw me to be followed by what * did I see in my Mrs when I first saw her

Thanks for that link - I searched as well but it didn't find that. Thats a good array of team pics there. I guess it was an image in an old newspaper. My dads photo - is of a printed image. My Dad wrote Berts Bristol in the Post - up to his death at 91 ( 1913-2004 ) His sisters still lived in the house right up to being evicted for building the M32. You could see part of the pitch from the back bedroom window. I played there as a kid - it backed right down onto the river - and you could throw stones at the rats. Two things stay with me of those early early matches as a kid ( about 1956 ) - the crush coming out the Stapleton Rd end gates - and the 'sweet' rain on your head from the Gasworks. Can't remember too much about the football.

Is Geoff Twentyman back row middle, Nicky Platnauer next to him and front row second right Frankie Prince?

Can't remember too much about the football. I lived at 566 Stapleton Road for a couple of years, backed onto the river opposite the dog kennels. The house name was Aston Villa, causing much fun on matchdays. It is now the M32 slip road!

If you google George Pay you just get a link to Asda flexible payments. Shame there isn't more online info available.
