Ah one team Bristol almost happened around about 1982 happy days. Don't get me wrong I can't stand the runts but with hindsight one United city/rovers team would surely have had more success than either team has done in the forty plus years I've been watching. I'm afraid I don't agree. I think a city this size should have two succesful football teams.

Best c*** players I think were Tony Ford, Trevor Jacobs, Steve Phillips. Can’t think of many good ones recently but I’m sure they’ll come good again some time. 😉 UTG! How about Terry Cooper ?

Well we have never had one let alone two, I don't count the jpt or similar crap success, both teams have massively underachived in my opinion.

Has everyone gone cabin fever bonkers? None of 'em (and yes I know Atyeo was a true gent). Didn't we beat them at Twerton when they had Jacki Dziekanowski and Andy Cole?

Not at all, they were great players but seems a bit radio rental on a BRFC forum having a post about which BCFC players we like. Can't imagine say the Portsmouth forum having a discussion about great Southampton players.

Can't imagine say the Portsmouth forum having a discussion about great Southampton players. Each to their own I guess. Would obviously never support City and would like them to lose every game they ever play but I can still admire individual players. I don’t like Argentina as a team and hated Maradona when he cheated us out of the 82 World Cup (with the help of Stevie Wonder who was ref and Ray Charles who was running the line!) but what a player.

Corrected that for you old boy. 😁

Let's face it, for the majority of ALL of our times watching the Gas, we've had the misfortune of being looked down on by those ass wipes from across the river. Despite being alive during 1990 title winning season, I was too young to remember it, and so the only time I really remember being better than City were the brief times in the late nineties (thinking Beadle at Ashton Gate, and the Roberts/Wally double at the Mem).
The rest of the time City have had a number of players that are frankly better than most of what we had at that time. Still, I've never thought "I wish we had that player"? I'm not sure why really, but I think it's just over time being self-conditioned to just despise them rather than admire them? Don't get me wrong, I can look over and objectively think that they're good players, to think otherwise would just be blinkered, but I don't covet them I just can't stand them!

Atteyo, Garland, Cheesely ( good friend) and Gery Gow were all players I’d have liked in our team although I never saw Atteyo play due to my age John Atyeo was a good footballer in that era (after all he did play for England 6 times and scored 5 goals) , and after he retired he was a regular at Twerton watching the Rovers. He was a quiet giant. I had heard this but didn’t know if it was true so thanks for fleshing that out. My father used to go to both teams home games and he saw him and used to tell me he was the best player in Bristol. He used to take us boys to both teams too. It was affordable and a real working man’s Gane then though

I won’t attempt to spell his name but the skilful Polish dude they got from Celtic but spent most of his time in Clifton wine bars. I reckon he’d be a cult hero whichever club he played at. I think we’d have also loved Shaun Taylor, old fashioned put your head in where it hurts sort of centre half. What I can remember of him he was very skillful, would love to have seen him play here. Didn't he put on a load of weight, and left them a few stone heavier? Or am I completely wrong? Dariusz ( Darren) Dziekanowki. He was a massive p155 head and was in the Polish club, staggering around, very often Me and my family would always tell him he went to the wrong team but the majority of us 2nd generation kids, of Polish heritage, were Reds. I never knew of the Polish blue army. Look it up if you get bored. I know Mark Czekalski and another called Kucharczyk were blue but even my cousins were bloody red

Nah they absolutely loved Ian 'Jock' Alexander. Usually gave their winger Smith a few bruises lol

Talking of right backs, does anyone remember when the teds wanted to sign Dave Pritchard and he told them to do one? Total legend imo, on and off the pitch

Think that little period in the early.90s was a golden time for both clubs. Players on both sides were desired by clubs in higher divisions. The derby matches were something else for a few years.

I know there is a massive gulf between us now, but imo its worth being a gashead just for that 1989/90 season. The end to that season could not have been scripted any better (apart from the Leyland Daf final) and I can still remember the City and Blackpool games like they were yesterday.

What the f**k is this thread about? Has everyone lost their minds?? Sh1!heads the lot of them. Other than Philips I can even remember a decent reject we've had off them. Some of you need to self isolate. And take a shower. Trevor Jacobs was great for us. But he may have been before your time, Hugo.
