Happy Sunday fellow Locked Down Gasheads
Thanks to Floyd Nello on YouTube for posting all the nostalgia filled footage of old Gas highlights over the last few days. This particular nugget is footage of the News Report of when the Groundshare with Bristol Rugby was announced back in 1996. Talk of the "new stadium" at Severnside back then makes it all the more depressing that we still haven't moved on 24 years later. Very interesting nonetheless. Enjoy!
Rest in Peace Geoff Dunford.

Enjoyed that.On and on goes the Dickensian facilities we have but watching this at least then there was a glimmer of hope even though as usual it was forlorn. Was that the last time a Rovers Chairman spoke to the fans? RIP GD.

I hadnât seen footage of the old main stand being demolished before, thanks for sharing. Hard to believe that the East Stand had just been built in that clip, looks worse for wear even back then.

It was never finished thatâs why. The paint was never top coated on the external steel frameworks. I have quoted to do this (and I know other contractors have) three times over the last decade and never been given an order as âa new stadium will be built soonâ. You got to laugh.

Wasn't there also a plan to extend the seating section across the full length of the pitch, but it was never realised due to the costs involved? I've always said that tearing it down and putting a modern all seater main stand in it's place would dramatically alter the appearance of the mem and turn it into something half respectable.

Apparently they got fleeced building the new West Stand, couldâve had a stand twice the size for the money they paid.

I heard that but not sure if it was ever close to happening. That stand, although the newest (permanent structure) is a disaster. I agree full length on that side is needed. Everything is just so piece meal. Hey ho we will be glad to get back there though mate wonât we!

The other problem of course is the importance of the stand commercially and operationally. It houses the corporate boxes, boardroom, changing rooms, medical rooms, stewards briefing and coat rooms, press room, managers office and the old boys club bar. You cannot start with that stand.

Great clips, interestingly we managed to score a headed goal from an in-swinging centre from the left flank; something we have rarely managed at the MEM, doh.

Mad seeing how much the stadium has changed. And yet it's still terrible. Lots of money wasted there on 'improvements'.

No they didn't, they could only build the new stand as long as it was no bigger than the old one. So they couldn't have had a stand twice the size.

Practically maybe; but that doesnât mean they werenât overcharged for the size of the stand they could achieve.
