The 1971 league cup win against a strong newcastle united team under lights at eastville. I was 12 years old and it was all very exiting at the time of the long league cup runs and free scoring div 3 games. Most of that newcastle team played in the fairs cup[europa league] final win in 1969 the last time newcastle won a trophy.

My favourite Of the games I’ve seen for all different reasons.
2-1 Daggers home to go up. Umpteen chances and a last minute winner to get promoted.
3-1 at Wembley vs Shrews. First time I had seen us win at Wembley.
2-0 at home to City in 99-00 season. Atmosphere that day was something else.

Reading 0-0 Rovers at HT
Reading 0-6 Rovers at FT
This is possibly my most favourite away game.

If I could have one to re-live over and over again it would be the League cup game at Trashton in 91-92. 3-1 down going into it and then 4-1 down early on. Then the fightback began, awful football but my god what a night out in torrential rain, miserable conditions. The final sight of seats being lobbed at their own players from the Dolman stand will live with me forever. Would gladly hand over my big toe to re-live that again, absolutely skin tingling night out, the walk across Ashton park was made in absolute silence trying to suppress my laughter. Went down to Trashton a week later to buy the video, narrated by Tosser Tottle. The woman in the shop said "You must be Gas, we've only sold 20 of them"........priceless. Shame I had to give them money for it but hey ho. I was at that game with a mate of mine, a Glos City fan. It was all ticket for Rovers fans that night, but City fans could pay at the turnstile, a fact that we didn`t realise until we got to the ground. So we paid and stood with the City fans. I managed to contain myself until Boris lobbed the ball over an advancing keeper and into the net, to put us ahead over the two legs on away goals. At that point I went up like my trousers were on fire, and my mate dragged me over to two nearby coppers, in the hope of avoiding retribution from enraged sh1theads. But I think they were too fired up by their side`s abject performance to even notice me. It was a great evening.

Rovers 2-2 Reading, Boxing Day 2000. Darren Heskey? played the villain for Reading. Think there was history between him/The Gas. It continued in this game. Absolutely freezing, pitch awful and 0-2 down well into the second half. We had two players sent off, Lewis Hogg and Trevor Challis. And the ref seemed to book anyone in blue and white quarters, including those on the terraces. Andy Thomson got one back, a header, and Nathan Ellington got one. Ellington was through for a sublime come-from-behind victory. He shot... and it all went slow motion... and the ball hit the post. Real Boxing Day football. If I could watch a game live all over again, it would be this one. We went down at the end of the season and lost that 'record' of being the only team never to have played in 'Div 1' or 'Div 4'.

There have been more important games, there have been better games, but, for pure unadulterated joy it has to be Ashton Gate 1987. There is no better atmosphere for football in Bristol than a derby at Ashton Gate when the whole away end is given over to the Rovers - it's spine tingling. In those days the away end was the East End - uncovered terracing, and we packed it. For 85 minutes it was purgatory. They battered us. And then suddenly GT hoofed it forwards and there was Gary Smart - top corner, right in front of the away end. Absolutely magical.

Shame I had to give them money for it but hey ho. I remember there being about 1000 of us in the uncovered end. Real hard core Gas, no one gave us a chance that night after the home leg. Standing in the monsoon at 4:1 down, I did question my sanity. It was my first game for a while as I’d been living in Sydney. After the game i remember having trouble lighting a soggy victory cigar as I strutted across Ashton Park like King of the fckin World.

I was there too, went with my brother and stated and ended in the Artichoke. Dennis Rofe had been made caretaker the weekend before and the difference in play just gave me the confidence that we could do it. Great game and probably one I would vote for here.

Don't know about my favourite game but for sheer unbridled joy, it has to be Peter Beadle's equaliser at Ashton Gate. 96/97

Great thread but too hard! BRFC 1 v 1 Man U. Great match and we should have won, we deserved to. Man United 1 v 2 BRFC. Who’d have thought it Rovers winning at OT. So proud as a teenager to be able to have something to shout about at school. Southend 0 v 0 BRFC. To finally clinch promotion with a great team, my first as a gashead. BRFC 3 v 1 Shrewsbury. For the quality of goals and drama at the end. Walkers goals would have been in the top ten if they were in the PL. didn’t get the credit. BRFC 1 v 0 **it.   After all Johnson said..... Grimsby 1 v 1 BRFC. No doubt the most important win in our history. BRFC 2 v I Daggers. Again for the drama at the end, on the same ground only two years after our worst moment. Difficult to choose but for the feeling after the match I’ll go for the Grimsby match for its pure importance. But I might change my mind later on different ages, different feelings!! UTG! ps I missed so much of the 80s and 90s for family stuff and distances and work stuff so it doesn’t register as high with me. Me too.. Grimsby not for the game but for how important it was for us just winning. It was the worst game in terms of nerves, and kicking and heading each ball. 2) Reading away 6-0. Me and my dad only got into the madejski at half time like around another 400/500 gasheads due to us all being stuck on the Motorway turn off.It was 0-0 at half time and we saw all 6 goals.Never seen another game like it.If you were there you would understand. 3) Beating Brenford at home on the last game of the season in 1998 to make the Playoff by that Barry Hayles header in the top corner. I remember that pitch invasion like yesterday! 4 and 5) are Games That sadly I wasnt at but were to of our biggest victorys ever. 2- 1 against D&R and The JPT win to send us to the Final against the City. Beating City 2-0 at the Mem with goals by Roberts and Wally Walters. Edit..... How could I forget the Wembley win against the Shrews....WTF. That sammy goal was one of my best ever.
