Exciting signings who did not disappoint might be a shorted list?

Exciting signings who did not disappoint might be a shorted list? Start a thread. I genuinely can’t think of one.

I think for me it was probably more managerial than players that disappointed me. I felt like Mark McGee should have done a lot more with us given his pedigree. Player wise I always felt like Blizzard had more to him than he showed, so I'd say he's my most disappointing. But I don't know what his situation was at the time so it'd be harsh to judge too much.
Youth team wise, I felt like Ben Swallow got shafted a bit. He came on and the first few games he had a spark that surprised a few people. Then Trollope seemed to try and change how he played and he dropped off. I think Trollope held back a few youngsters in their development in that regard. When you get to that age, rejection and consistency can really affect a person's growth.

Again, we've had managers who realistically should have done so much better with the players they had, yet they did so poorly. He did so poor. I think Buckle had kind of right idea/wrong idea in terms of wanting to create a clean slate with the team. He tried to change too much too quick and made some poor choices with getting rid of players.

DC completely changed the team and got us back to back promotions and (likely) only missed out on a third because Taylor had a release clause. Buckle was a sh** manager who had a fluke season with a team who well over performed.

Lee Martin, he was a big disappointment, I really thought we'd got ourselves a quality defender there.

Tin hat firmly on.
Vitālijs Astafjevs
Signed by Holloway in preparation for the championship but ended up as part of the squad that got us relegated to the fourth tier for the first time in our history (and almost out the league entirely the following season).

Remember mickey Evans?? Scored loads of goals for Plymouth, got capped by the republic of ireland when they were half decent and scored goals for Southampton in the prem. Came to us as a replacement for cureton and Roberts and was a complete dud.. One of our worst strikers... Other bad ones who came with a big reputation and were terrible were matt Gill signed from Norwich City and spent the whole of his gas career on the treatment table, Justin channing from qpr who was a donkey, Marcus andreasson who got home sick after a few weeks, Andy Williams who we chased for a season and a half from Hereford and didn't produce.. Martin Phillips and jamal Easter to a lesser degree.

Bit off topic, but anyone notice the amount of duds we signed from either QPR and Norwich over the years? I always had high hopes when we signed them as both clubs were prem at the time. Here goes: QPR: Justin Channing, Bradley Allen, Ross Weare, Alvin Bubb, Steve Parmenter, Graeme Power. Norwich: Ryan Morgan, Bradley Andrews, Jamie Shore (controversial as his career was basically finished when he joined us because of his shot knee) and matt Gill.

That was always because of the Ian Holloway, Gerry Francis and Gary Penrice connection with QPR right? Don't really know of the link to Norwich City, Jamie Cureton started his career there and David Williams played and managed there for a bit but other than that not sure.

Who was the Scottish striker we had about 5 years ago who played for rangers? I think we signed him from St mirren on non contract and there were rumours he had a drink problem? I think he was a bit of a head case as well.. Always getting sent off.. Anyone remember??
