On Sky Germany you have the option to switch on/off the simulated crowd noise. Some fans like it the noise, some don't. It's up to you.

I was watching the Dortmund-Bayern game yesterday and they had a sound engineer working on projecting realistic atmospheric volume and to his credit it was genuinely good.
I'm sure at the mem we'd get a bloke holding his phone playing a clip off youtube towards a microphone but just goes to show if it's done right, it's actually not that bad.
