Ian Atkins without doubt signed the players on transfer deadline day which kept us in the League whilst on garden leave from Oxford. Kevan Broadhurst was appointed by Atkins to coach and assist with the arrival of the new players. Russell Osman was a board appointment to assist with coaching and deal with the media. He later applied for and failed to land the top job. In Atkins only full season we finished 12th which was the highest that we had finished in League 2 since being relegated. He wasn't a popular appointment but is record wasn't bad. So when we escaped relegation Atkins wasn't actually managing the team is was Broadhurst and Osman. In his first full season he led us to mid table obscurity and in his next was sacked because we were looking like relegation candidates. I remember one of his last games in charge against Scumthorpe. It was freezing cold in the tent stand, and I watched in frozen disbelief as we went down 3-0 without a whimper. I Remember sitting in my car to go home trying to thaw out, wondering what the hell was going to happen to us with that idiot in charge. After he was fired by us I think he may have had a couple of fire fighting jobs which didn't go well and he hasn't managed since, I Dont think. Ian actually teamed up with Kevan and Russell for the last few games once Oxford received their combo. He was sacked for disobeying instructions from the board but the performances helped speed up his departure. The last I heard he was working for Aston Villa. I agree he wasn't manager material but a superb scout hence the level he has worked at over the last decade.

Outstanding from Clough and shows the measure of the man. I personally think he's one of the most underrated managers in the lower leagues. In his first spell at Burton he took Burton up from the seventh tier to the brink of promotion to League Two. In his second spell helped to get them promoted to the Championship and then kept them there the following season. Last couple of seasons in League One had them comfortably finishing mid table on a limited budget and also incredibly got them to the Semi Final of the League Cup. Took over Sheffield United in the relegation zone and got them into the League One playoffs and to the FA Cup and League Cup semi-finals and at the same time dramatically cut their wage bill. Also one of the few lower league managers to have a song dedicated to him. . Quite a few Burton fans were happy that he left on some of the Facebook forums. Couldn't beehive it. Not sure why they wanted him gone so badly. Bit like Rovers fans wanting Coughlan gone so badly isn’t it , funny that he’s gone to Mansfield too.

Deserves to be at a better place than a tin pot, delusional club like the Stags.
Though if he lives around Nottingham he's not far away!

That's not saying Clough is a bad manager, quite the opposite imo, but they must pay well.
