Nor me. Appears to detest the current Conservative administration, ( would like to see every male member of the cabinet punched in the face ) yet readily admits to retaining a soft spot for Andreas Baader and his gorgeous pouting paramour Ulrike. At least they weren`t racist, I suppose. They didn`t much care who they shot or blew up. But but....what about....but but Ok. So how about condemning David Starkey for racism, while voting for a man who described Hamas as his "friends". If you`re just trying to wind people up... fair enough. If not, you really ought to have a think about things.

Unable to vote for the Conservatives I voted Labour, despite Corbyn and knowing, or believing, he couldn't win. This has been discussed a million times leading up to the election (not my thoughts alone I might add). Now of course, with Starmer, unless something goes wrong I will vote FOR him and Labour. Does that clear it up?

Taking advantage of the pandemic, I see Trump continues his nationalist agenda. Whilst at the same time appearing to be running for President of the old Confederate States (😂😂) flip.it/uwz-pa

And you`ve been pretty uncomplimentary about him since his defeat, so you knew what you were voting for. And it certainly shows a lack of attention on your part, when it comes to recent history. Margaret Beckett and other Labour, er, moderates did pretty much this during the Labour leadership contest of 2015. They put their cross next to Jeremy Corbyn, knowing or believing that he couldn`t win. How did that turn out? Easy enough to say now, I voted for his party knowing he wouldn`t win. It wasn`t at all a done deal, on the evening of the GE. Right up until the exit poll was announced, a lot of people thought we were headed for a hung parliament. You could easily have helped him get his hands on the reigns of power. I`m not defending David Starkey. He doesn`t seem to be defending himself, except to apologise. I think his choice of words betrays his opinions on people of colour. But I also think that Corbyn`s use of the word, "friends" to describe Hamas, betrays his opinions on Jews. Check out their charter. It`s not just about Israel. That you condemn one person for racism, while voting for the party led by another, makes little sense to me.

I can understand your view, I was obviously conflicted myself. Initially I had intended to vote Lib Dem, but they quickly embarrassed themselves. The Hamas thing I cannot get to excited about. It was a while back and exposes Corbyn's "anyone but Israel" approach. Which is annoying because as is always the case with people like him, his sillyness dilutes the genuine critique of Israel's apartheid policies aimed at Palestinians in the general area.

Check out their charter. It`s not just about Israel. That you condemn one person for racism, while voting for the party led by another, makes little sense to me. It's all the way through his thinking William. I'm the anti-Christ for challenging him and because somebody else decided to leave a different forum, yet no mention from him of Nobby leaving here after continued exchanges with someone else. Does that happening mean, by default that the person who remained was incorrect throughout those exchanges? Not in my opinion it doesn't. Sometimes people just move on, it happens. I would actually like to exchange views with him, it could be interesting, but he would need to be consistent and here's the really important thing, when it's proven conclusively that something he's said is incorrect, he would need to be able to accept that, or at least acknowledge that evidence put forward that doesn't align with his view could be valid, but in years and may thousands of posts I've never seen him do it. His idea of 'debate' seems to be to shout opinion but not tolerate reply that challenges him in any way.

Of course normal people are going to resist being told that they hold biased opinions and don't even realise it and need educating.
More madness from the rabid left.
This isn't how you achieve consensus, it's how you create division.

Speaking of which I was reading a book on Russian spycraft since the end of the Cold War and it appears that all this woke nonsense is bread from heaven for Putin - his twitter troll farms are all over social justice causes like Black lives matter as a form of sowing division in the ranks of his enemies (as they are amplifying the views of the extreme right too). The fringes of the left and right are where Putin does his best work. Another thing to think about when falling for the emotive views at the extremes of each side of the political spectrum.

That's the problem isn't it, whilst these children are all running around screaming 'racist' at literally everybody and everything, just like at Salem, even if you have never had a racist thought in your life, have lived in a country where you are a minority and appreciated literally every single time somebody made allowance for you not fully understanding their culture or struggling with their language, and have always tried your very best to afford that same degree of respect and hospitality to visitors to this country, still I'm guilty of some thought crime that I don't even know I've committed and need to be 'educated'. The longer this woke nonsense goes on the wider the gap between sanity and the left grows. I see that Mr Forensic, the guy who is so across every detail that 2 weeks ago he was on his knees in front of the alter of BLM, but now has found out what they are actually trying to achieve has had to distance himself from them, has signed himself up for exactly this type of 'education'. Wave goodbye to a huge chunk of your voters Starmer, normal people want no part of this culture war and assault on our standing as decent, compassionate people.

There you go again. It`s becoming a habit, gas365. Coming on here writing sense. For God`s sake, get yourself a nice thick rope, and go out and pull down a statue of Alfred the Great. Or someone. Anyone.

Taking that forward how unintelligent do you have to be to believe everything you read, listen to, on the internet without checking from differing sources?

No we should never be afraid to however, many people will not due to the abuse they receive from many sources. Look at the vitriol JK Rowling has received and that many speakers with different views are cancelled from University forums,I don't agree with them but I defend there right to speak. I don't believe it's about intelligence either it's about reinforcement of beliefs.

I agree with what gas365 wrote, and I was contrasting his moderate views with the tear down the statues mob. Apologies, gas365, if it didn`t come across that way. But to answer your questions; no, you shouldn`t be afraid of expressing your views for fear of manipulation by some fascist foreign government. And yes, you would have to be pretty unintelligent to to believe everything you read, listen to, on the internet without checking from differing sources. But I reckon that lots of people, right and left, do just that.

I have, personally, never subscribed to the idea that anyone should be barred, banned or threatened because of their views. Challenged, rebutted even ridiculed, absolutely. I am a great believer that allowing views to be exposed to the sunshine of debate they quickly expose themselves to be ridiculous, ignorant or ultimately malign. Look at the examples of Farage, Trump, Nick Griffin. In time exposure will catch and burn groups like the European Research Group under the farcical leadership of Rees-Mogg. As Corbyn was and as Momentum lie in ashes.
