It’s all gone a bit quiet on here 🤷♂️ Have the Tory / Brexit loons admitted defeat ? Even francegas has run out of things to come back on 😮😂 Not at all Yatton, I just have more important things on my mind.....namely my health. So not really in the best frame of mind to have a spat with the loony left. Hope your well. UTG.

Nothing to do with who's in charge, more to do with falling business profitability and excessive government borrowing. Excessive gov borrowing has nothing to do with who’s in charge ? Ok 🙄 FTSE closes at record high of 7901.80. This year it has climbed by 6% the best start to a year since 2013.

There is a reason for that, and it's not necessarily because UK plc is good, a weak Pound is a major factor. "The FTSE 100 is dominated by banking and energy companies, which have performed relatively well, the latter sharply boosted by higher oil and gas prices. And overall, the bulk of the money earned by companies on the index comes from overseas: earnings which rise in value when the pound falls against the dollar." Hope you've managed to see your doctor since you got back. How was NZ and Oz?

No further seizures thankfully but will get a full MOT when I get home.

Isn't every man or woman on the street who has a money purchase pension scheme through their employer or has a private pension affected by the rise and fall of the FTSE? It's a bit more nuanced than that. It depends on what funds they are invested in and how those funds are then sub-invested. I suspect the average man in the street won't really notice much, it's the big investor who probably has a balanced portfolio anyway. Don't forget, the real gain is only realised when they cash it in otherwise it's hypothetical to us ordinary folk and the benefit of a greater pension pot is converted into an annuity with prevailing annuity rates dependant on other factors, such as interest rates.
