Mixed feelings about OC staying. IMO he has not displayed the requisite skill set to be considered a good midfielder at L1 level. Last season, he was not very good at all and he is way too indisciplined. As a result he puts himself and the team under unnecessary pressure. On the positive side he is very determined and has a wicked shot - when he gets it on target.
I suspect BG can't make his mind up about OC. Hence the one year contract. If the manager was that keen he would have offered a longer contract.

Love his effort and one of our own, but being ruthless not sure what I would do if I was Ben, trust his judgement, but not sure he suits "Garnerball".

I would be comfortable with any decision Ollie makes, no prob with him going or staying, my only concern is that if the contract on the table falls short of what he is used to, which in the present climate would not be a surprise, will he be as motivated as he always has been or will he feel undervalued by club and would this be reflected on the field, its a difficult one for players and clubs as they are all likely to be cost cutting and players may be in a take it or leave it situation, or find themselves out of the game.

It could be we've offered him a one contact at very basic L1 money on the basis he needs to go out next season and earn a contract, if so, it's a win win situation for both sides and hopefully the wake up call OC needs.

What I took from this article is this line... "While the Rovers boss is bringing down the age of the Rovers squad, the 40-year-old recognises the importance of experience". So those who are worried that BG will only sign youngsters, worry not. Until we actually sign some experienced players I'll keep on worrying! Blimey Topper, you must be stressed all the time. Worrying about things that is out of your control. Worrying about things that may not even happen. Worrying about things that may happen. The window is not even open yet and you are already worrying. Literally everything is a glass half empty to you. Im not trying to wind you up here or be disrespectful but this cannot be healthy for you. What will be will be and try to enjoy the ride!

I expect contracts will be either shorter, or the players will receive far less money in the current climate. Also, smaller squads will mean a lot of players leaving the game altogether

It will mean they will play more often and get more appearance bonus, assist bonus, goal bonus, clean sheet bonus etc. Always some positives out of a negative.

I guess you're talking generally, but do you get the impression that our squad is going to be small ? 3 new players coming in apparently and BG has indicated a few more in midfield and attack.

I am not too fussed about OC signing or not. It's hard to rate a midfielder too highly who can't pass and has zero discipline. He does give us a bit of bite and is a useful squad player but we won't be going very far with him as captain and a regular in the first team.

Post is reporting Mansfield have made a late attempt to sign OC.
My guess is we have offered reduced terms and said hel be more of a back up player, but with GC close relationship with OC and offer of first team football could turn his head.
Honestly, not really that fussed if he does or doesn’t sign.

I feel like if Rovers have put an offer on the table and it was close to being agreed, then let it stand, but that's it. Don't really think we should be chasing this, especially under presure from ex-managers.

If ever there was proof the Bristol Live know nothing this is it,
One day he’s on the verge of staying - next they report Mansfield are the favourites to sign him....
Another dent in their credibility and something to keep in mind when reading the twice weekly Q&A update, especially around the Fruit Market.

If true...I think it will depend on contract length given by Mansfield and that's it. Would they match his wages? Probably, can't imagine they offer more. Being from Bristol and working his way up to the first team. If it was me, I wouldn't be dropping down a league at 28 years old. I would at least wait until I've had a proper full season under Garner (if he lasts that's long) and see what happens after that.

This sort of thing happens in football all the time, the landscape can change by the hour let alone by the day. Not that often outside of a transfer deadline day, and without whispers or rumours? How would the BP know GC was going to be sneakily enough to come in at the 11th hour with an offer, he's probably been planning this all summer as I doubt if he's suddenly decided he needs a CM. Personally I can't see he's a loss if he goes, the fact OC's seemingly now happy to drop a division perhaps suggests that he feels he's not up to L1 football.

Some people really don't understand how football clubs brief the press.
