Really can't see the point of keeping Bennett - if he stays we still have to pay his wages plus his cost of employment - NI & Pension contribution. Surely the club can negotiate something to get him off the books. I can see at least two current CB's leaving if this Post article is true - there again it is the Post. Put yourself in Bennett's position. His current contract with Rovers will be the last big one in his career. He won't go anywhere unless his current conditions remain the same. The only way he will leave is if Rovers and his new club jointly contribute to satisfy his current contract. On the positive side, we've only him for another year. I fear you might be right wilmslow.. It seems to be the way of the world now where money is more important to footballers than ambition and winning trophies.. He could go to Swindon, play 30+ games for them next season or rot away in our reserves for the next 10 months for a nice wage.. All this seemed to start in the late 90s when I remember Chelsea having a really good goalie called carlo cudicini. He was their reserve keeper and would've walked into any other PL team but chose to stay at Chelsea, warming their bench every week creating no football playing memories to tell his grand kids about but collecting a lot of cash for doing absolutely nothing. It seemed such a bizarre phenomenon at the time but now it's the way of the world.. There must be kids kicking balls in parks all over the country dreaming of when they grow up, earning loads of money to warm a bench at a club.. It just seems so wrong.

Carlo Cudicini joined in the 00s and played over 100 games for Chelsea? Can't imagine Bennett has gotten anywhere near close to playing that for us.

It’s just depressingly dawned on me that someone under the age of 20 probably hasn’t got a clue who Carlo cudicini is 😳

Two good signings if we can get them over the line. Plus Josh Grant, things could be looking very promising already for next season! We need above all a vitas Astafievs thought maybe josh Barrett was in that mould, someone who is creative and can change a game, don t think we need both centre halves mentioned, Kilgour Davies Harries and Rollin are enough for cover IMHO.

To be fair this guy is usually quite good and doesn’t report things unless there is a bit of substance behind it.

I agree. But then I don’t know what the budget for next season is and of course I won’t know. But it will need to stretch to equally good creative options in midfield and another forward at least if not two. With 4 CHs already we're well covered but perhaps BG is planning to offload a couple or one of them. We don’t even know if we’re going to sign these 2. Long way to go yet before we even know when next season will start. But it is looking positive. UTG!

Both Bournemouth and Southampton have been linked with Alfie kilgour in the past so maybe there is something else going on, am quite impressed with the targets, wonder if we will get Hiwula, a while ago we were disappointed when Otis Khan rejected us 😂. After Clive Platt and that walsall striker who went to cov wont believe anything until we see them smiling at the fruit Bowel arena 😂

I think the two players mentioned are an improvement on what we already have. Maybe we are looking to offload a defender or two. Baldwin is also able to play as a CDM where he played a large portion of his games on loan with Salford last season. I agree we need another creative midfielder with the potential for a goal and assist, but I'm sure the management and recruitment department have that under control. I'm much more relaxed with the current scouting setup in place and reckon they will have one or two more decent signings lined up. Hopefully Barrett will come back fit and ready and become an asset for us too.

The man who we were going to sign and then shat on us from a great height.. Or the matt Taylor of.. Umm.. Probably circa 1999?

Bakayoko the other one? I've not lost any sleep over him.. His goal scoring record is dreadful.

Agreed Cudicini is not the example of a money grabbing bench sitter that springs to mind when discussing Chelsea, that honour (?) belongs to Winston Bogarde.

Davies and kilgour were outstanding under coughlan so would prefer them both to stay as long as davies is fit. Baldwin has been unable to cut the mustard in league one albeit with peterbro and sunderland so why is he suddenly going to be good enough at rovers? Or Salford. Not highly rated by Sunderland fans.

We already have lots of experienced players,i was hoping we would stick with the policy of signing younger players. Davies and kilgour were outstanding and menayese looked good except when playing at full back. Get some young attack minded players in the door i say.

Carlo Cudicini was number 1 at Chelsea for over 4 seasons. He was voted Chelseas Player Of The Year in 2001/02, and also won the Premier League Golden Glove Award in 2003. He played 141 times for Chelsea. It was only when Peter Cech signed in 2004 where he found himself as back up. Maybe you were thinking of somebody else.

Didn't we have a centre back called Baldwin a few years ago?
