Thanks for posting. Good read and it seems like a pure financial decision that may become clearer in time. What is clear is that the EFLs fit and proper regulation isn’t worth the paper it’s written on and that must be clear to the FA, the clubs, the fans and the EFL themselves. Time for change. UTG!

Thanks pirates didn’t quote, too long! Wow that’s just a scheme for owners to get rich, share price shenanigans must be illegal or perhaps not and betting on a club to get relegated which is definitely illegal in this country if done by football people with a vested interest. Quite a list of shady stuff. Perhaps the investigation needs to happen ASAP to avoid giving Wigan the -12 points and probably relegating them. Makes you thankful for an enthusiast like WAQ I guess whose heart is in the right place. Sometimes it’s good to be thankful for what you’ve got. Blimey, the more you find out the more you realise that the FA, EFL and authorities in this country are completely out-manoeuvred by these people. Change is needed. UTG!

Reading that thread shows that it’s not an easy solution. Obviously fans of other clubs take a partisan view, the EFL let it happen to us so why not Wigan. But two wrongs don’t make a right and I guess that the system at the moment needs real change. I hear people praise the German model but I’m not an expert so I don’t know in detail. Whatever, change to the ownership laws are needed, not just fiddling with them but real change that incorporates spending limits compared to income, rules on the owners etc. UTG!

I've not read into this in any detail but it seems the German model can't be perfect? rusbankrot.ru/en/bankruptcy-and-liquidation/famous-german-football-club-is-going-bankrupt/Not sure how a pro gambler gets past the fit and proper EFL rules of ownership, although Whelan surely must have had concerns when he sold the club but I assume just happy to sell.

Trouble is, it seems like the argument is that you can't have someone come in and cynically wreck a club, but it's ok if they do it by accident. Not really sure how the EFL, or anyone, can really differentiate between the two.

And that’s at the heart of it perhaps, they can’t differentiate between the two and their systems don’t allow them to. Despite the difficulties change is needed. UTG!

Yes pirate it is more than interesting. Unfortunately the view of the Middlesbrough fan, being so partisan, might be more reflective of what other non-Wigan fans feel. No one really worries until it happens to you. I doubt if Wigan fans worried last August when Bury went down. We always think it won’t happen to us. Clearly the worrying thing looks to be that the complicated nature of the relationships make it more worthy of a Fraud Squad investigation rather than an A4 piece of paper checklist of the EFL. Change is needed but I don’t hold out much hope for that. With Parry in charge I’m more worried about the Championship becoming PL2 and leaving the 48 L1 and L2 clubs even further adrift. UTG!
