Topper, over Reilly perhaps you’re correct but even then most of his goals istr were against lower level opposition. And as I’ve said many times, the recruitment in Summer 2018 was very poor and ultimately cost DC his job. But as I said some will be good and some will be poor, just have to hope our scouting team have done their homework. UTG!

Also with Reilly, he scored much of his goals in the Scottish Championship and Scottish League One for St Mirren and QOS, where there is a big gulf in quality with the Scottish Premiership, let alone League One. Admittedly, I don't know a lot about Nicholson but he's obviously proved himself in the MLS and Scottish Premiership, two standards of football more comparable to League One. Istm signing Reilly was more of a gamble, whereas this guy if he joins will be a bit of a coup.

Today’s reporting on this potential transfer by the BEP is apparently the player’s own words on his options. I’ve no reason to doubt they are his own words and to my mind suggest this would be an ill fated move should we proceed. To paraphrase the flowery talk - “I’ve had a decent offer from a club I do not want to play for, so if I get something close from a club I do want to play for I’ll sign for them”. I suggest we just withdraw whatever we’ve put on the table thank him for his time and move on. Players who move only for the money and whose hearts are not invested in their employers doing well very rarely work out. Let him play for who he wants to, which he’ll be able to do without having to make a choice if we pull out of the running.

Agreed when I read it I thought Joey Beauchamp for younger readers went to west Ham and was home sick for oxford

Or alternatively he's nailed on to sign for Hearts but SF can write an article in the BP pretending that we've made an offer, in order to fill the back page/get a few more web page hits? I can't see Rover giving him a daily update on our transfer activity when we blanked him on the training ground news. I can't see why a player returning from the states for "family reasons" would then choose to play for a club virtually as far away from Edinburgh he can get in the UK, other than Plymouth. SF's going to come out of this summer looking a right shyster or a reporter with v. good inside knowledge.

Being a reporter for a club of Rovers stature is hard enough at the best of times, yet alone in the current climate. At least he goes and looks for stories, maybe a few of them will be duds but we could always go back to the nothing/negative stories from John Evely,Jack Vittles and David Byrom. The likelihood is that he won’t get everything right because nobody does. Oh and the Nicholson link started in the Scottish press

The club managed to qualify for Europe and that hadn’t happened in around ten years. So signing now would be good as it’s a special place” This is a come and get me Hearts because the “superior offer” I’ve got ISN’T a special place!!!

Think you're missing the context behind this, Nicholson was specifically asked about Hearts and the possibility of re-joining them from the Scottish Sun. Not a slight on Rovers at all that he should talk up his boyhood club. Isn't that what we would want Kilgour/Lines/Clarke to do?

He ended up at Dagenham and doing well for them.

If he’d said something about having an offer on the table that is attractive, at a club with a project/vision that’s appealing...or even that he has a tough decision to make etc then I might agree with you. His interview, His words, about his future doesn’t even suggest he might be excited at the prospect of plying his trade for any club in the EFL.

This is clearly a message to Hearts to match Rovers offer, but Nicholson is clearly open to offers, Hearts are in difficulty we have cleared our debt and as I have said before in a very strong position this season to sign available players as most other EFL clubs are in debt and some clearly struggling. At the moment we do appear to be favourites to sign him.

Oh and the Nicholson link started in the Scottish press Nope, just board with him suggesting we about to sign every player in the UK but not one's signed yet. I thought he'd give it rest until 1 of the other 3 actually signed now he's started up on yet another player All this is going to do his undermine Wael/BG/TW when we eventually sign seemingly inferior players eventually, as you know is likely to be the case having followed Rovers for decades. Anyway keep on with you love in with SF if it make you feel better.
