Next season.
This doesn't feel right to me. Wigan were told they would get 12 points deduction this season or next season if it meant they were safe. So it feels 1) unfair on them and 2) Charlton would have been safe if Sheff Weds would have got the 12 points deduction this season.

The worst thing about the decision is Sheffield Wednesday committed their offence before Wigan did, so how does their ruling apply to next season?
It’s like refereeing, you’ve got to be consistent with the decisions made otherwise all integrity and respect is lost.

It does make punishment in the EFL something of a lottery. You can be lucky or unlucky depending on the timing. Is the punishment being left to next season because the season has ended? Yet it hasn’t because the Championship Play Off Final has yet to be played so it’s still this season. So why not now? Wonder if Charlton will do anything or if Wigan win their appeal and stay up Barnsley might be wondering. And we haven’t had Derby’s hearing yet have we? Not that they will be involved in relegation if they get a 12 point penalty. What a totally mess! UTG!

I think the fact the decision has taken so long is the shocking part. It seems ridiculous to finish a season and teams not know if they are staying up or going down. Seen as the seasons finished I can see why it has been applied to next season, but the decision should’ve been made long before now.
Having said that, I know some Wednesday fans and they are all saying they’d have rather it applied this season as they think relegation next season is inevitable now. So they’d rather just get on with life in League One and try and bounce back as soon as possible.

Big clubs and London clubs always get more than their fair share of "luck"? I feel sorry for Wigan as the takeover was approved by the EFL and the penalty should have taken into account possible extenuating circumstances like relegation bets, etc. Being placed on them. Should company directors that go into administration / bankruptcy not be allowed to hold such positions again in this country?
Has the EFL announced an investigation into Wigan and the takeover as yet? An EFL independent inquiry!

I hope Charlton do challenge the decision and win as the EFL need to be shown up for what it is, not fit for purpose.
