This feels like an odd post-
On the one hand it feels negative because I want to point out that Westbrooke seems obtainable to me... I mean these rumours that people sight as somehow proof that hed never sign seem way beyond the mark... wasnt Kelly off to West Ham last year? I suspect these rumours are exactly that... Secondly a more thorough reading of the Coventry forum suggests although hes a good league one player- many are unconvinced that he can make a mark in the championship.
Conversely- I'm positive because he does seem a good league one player. He does seem obtainable and often players find themselves at a level they find regular success: see- Darren Huckerby perennially between the champ and prem. Tony Craig perhaps.
And finally hes coming from Coventry and remarkably we havent had a flop yet. Davies is injured, and perhaps Abu is a little one dimensional buttttt they were all helpful to the situation we were in at the time.

Had a look on sofa score and he has very similar attributes to Liam Sercombe but 5 yrs younger. ZW : attack 57 Creative 56 Tech 55 Def 46 Tackling 45
LS : attack 55 Creative 56 Tech 57 Def 53 Tackling 49
Make of that what you will .

More like Wael's got his cheque book out quicker? Didn't DC once say players will move anywhere for a fiver more, at the moment it seems only Blackpool and Rovers are signing players in L1, even the big boys are quiet. It seems like we are capatilising on the current situation by being proactive in offering good players contracts. They may not normally have come here but there are players who just want the security of a contract etc. Despite the slight risk attached, I feel we have taken advantage of that and that's Kudos to Wael and the team. The only downside it the club's holding out pick up bargains when players starting getting desperate, not that it's my money/wage budget to worry about it.

If so, then I find it hard to believe a championship CM is worse at Def (defending) and tackling than Sercs?

No idea how good Sofa score figures are or if they’re a true representation.

What makes them a big club? That one FA Cup 33 years ago? The fact that they have a decent-sized fanbase? Plenty of clubs (plenty in L1) fit that criteria too. You're right about the city though, awful sh*thole. They were in the top flight uninterupted from 1967 until 2001. Thats quite some doing, when you consider Man Utd, Chelsea, Spurs, Villa, Leeds, Newcastle all got relegated from the top flight, and a few of them more than once in that time . You make an excellent, fair point. Unfortunately it doesn't suit my agenda though so I'm going to continue being stubborn about it

Callum Camps makes a fair point regarding the training ground in fairness. There was speculation yesterday that he would sign to day with an announcement by the club Monday morning, so I guess football insider had their ear to the ground.

To be fair to Frost, the signings he’s said are happening and reported on are Grant, Ehmer, Baldwin, Ayunga and Nicholson. All of them have happened.
Not sure he’s reported a deal is close with a player and got it wrong this summer so I’m quietly confident about this one now...

Not to say that the source has much credability, but what a cracking signing this would be. Hi all Coventry fan here, I'd like to say that I think this will be good business for you, he's a talented lad, very neat and tidy on the ball and will chip in with a couple goals... His only problem is he's scared to get stuck in and I think this is the main reason for Mark Robins letting him go as we can't have that if we are to survive the championship. But I wish him all the best at rovers and hope he stars for you in the coming season/s

Best signing off the season so far if we pull this one off. Garner must have some very good contacts and talk a good game. as these players we are getting would normally not even think about joining us. That’s the playmaker we desperately needed. Leeds Cardiff and the sh** was after this lad in January what a coup this could be.

Hi lads, another Coventry fan here. Would appear I was beaten to the punch by a fellow Sky Blue but nevertheless, I'll throw out some thoughts on Westbrooke.
Firstly, very good signing for you boys I'd say. He's a very technically gifted lad and has all the attributes to play at a higher level in that regard. As mentioned above he is let down by his physicality and his slight unwillingness to get stuck in, although he's by no means lazy or work-shy. Stick him in a midfield 3 with a someone like Ogogo and one other and you should be golden.
As for why we're letting him go, I'm just not sure he was going to play much next year. We play a pretty weird system as you'll have seen last year, in which we use 4 centre mids, but even then he's behind Liam Kelly, Gustavo Hamer, Jamie Allen, Jordan Shipley and Callum O'Hare in the pecking order. Not really a criticism of him as they're all just very decent players, but I imagine the lad just wants to be somewhere he's first choice at this stage of his career. Personally I'd have been happy for him to stay as he certainly contributed to our promotion last season, especially early on while Jamie Allen was out injured and Liam Walsh and Callum O'Hare hadn't quite settled. Hopefully he'll do a great job for you next year (and I don't just say that because I imagine we'll have a handsome sell on clause!).
One final quick note that may be worth bearing in mind. He did have quite a public split with his now ex-girlfriend half-way through last season. She was pregnant at the time and was very unhappy with how he'd handled it all (I think she alleged he'd been cheating) but the muttering our end are that he was prepared to sign a new deal here just as that happened and then didn't because of it. I think the club were also a bit unimpressed with his agent linking him to a big money move in the press either which didn't help. Didn't seem to affect his on pitch performance at all but yeah, good chance he'd be tied down to a longer contract here had that not happened.

The following is a paragraph from the Football Insider article (1 hour ago) The 23-year-old, who scored four goals and provided six assists in the Eredivisie last year, put pen to paper on a three-year deal in the West Midlands. This suggests he has actually signed

Leeds Cardiff and the sh** was after this lad in January what a coup this could be. Why do you think BG has anything to do with signing a Coventry player? It's also seem too good to be true the news coming out of Rovers at the moment sign a goal scoring No 10 and that's virtually everything we could have asked for, assuming we also sign a couple of young wingers. Typical it' looking like our best pre-season for years but there's little chance of seeing any live games for months.
