Just would like us all to not put too much pressure on the new team BG is making and obviously BG himself. Let's not forget his results have been somewhat poor and yes that wasnt with his own group of players but he and the new lads will take a bit of time to get to know each other and the way BG wants to play so it's all new here. Dont mean to put a damper on what has probably been our best summer signings for god knows how long but we need to just calm down and give the boys some time before we talk of promotion. UTG! Will this BG be a hit? Like: - How Deep Is Your Love (for The Gas) - You Win Again (hopefully us!) - Holiday (yes now but honeymoon already over if any in first place) - To Love Somebody (only the Gas) - I Started A Joke (not this new team we hope) - Wish You Were Here (so do we from 12/09) Under Pressure? Wait till we get near the Top 6! There is one thing to remember with the Gas; we never do things easily? UTG PS Maybe I should be at the pub sobering up?

Have we got a start date and fixture release date for the season yet ? Start date - Yes, September 12th. Fixture release date - No, the EFL are still working out the details, should be sooner rather than later I would've thought. Thanks.

With all the sh** going on in the world, nice to be excited that the Gas are making some good signings. Can’t argue with this . I’m def not getting carried away in the slightest but don’t begrudge those that are. It’s the hope that killls you !

We’ve had extremely good signings on paper but all this talk of having the best squad since 99/00 is beyond haste.
Let’s see how they turn out first before making bold statements like that.
Don’t forget the puppet master needs to prove himself too!

Yes totally agree. L1 is looking a competitive league next season with the teams in it. We don't want to set ourselves up to fail. BG has still got a lot to prove and could do without extra pressure. Also as good as JCH and Westbrooke are, they were sitting on the bench for a L1 side 18 months ago. Grant, Ayunga, Nicholson, Daly, Barrett are all unproven in L1 so will be interesting to see how they get on. Nichols looked a good signing on paper. When we went down from L1 to L2, Gill, Zebroski etc looked good signings on paper for that league. It's promising but let's just stay calm and see.

Football is about passion and feelings, that's what sets it apart. I don't want to be told to calm down when I have so much heartache supporting my club. Sure its the hope that kills you, but let the results do that and not other fellas telling me I should not be enjoying what seems positive news. Even my wife is saying, oh that's nice.

My heart says we have made some great signings on paper and we could be a surprise package with BG playing an attractive way of football.
My head says results since BG came in have been hideous and there’s no guarantee that good singings on paper means good players on the pitch.
If the lockdown hadn’t happened and football had continued up until summer with results staying as they were, I would think BG would have been under huge pressure. I think a lot of fans will be giving BG a clean slate.

It’s always nice to get excited and especially seeing everyone on here in a good mood!
But yes we have to be a little cautious. We have all forgotten that we have a manager who until the last few games couldn’t buy a win and many wanted him gone. Of course now he has the players he wants for his style to work. Yes they may take time to gel and not having any crowds may work in his favour by easing the pressure a little.
Certainly nothing wrong with being excited and optimistic though for the upcoming season.

Saw one Rovers fan say on Twitter yesterday that if we aren’t “in and around” the top 6 by Xmas then Garner needs to go... Give me a break!
Let’s not forget that not only is this BG’s first full season as an EFL manager, it’ll also be the first full season as an EFL regular (I.e. not a youth/fringe player) for: Harries, Daly, Barrett, Ayunga, Nicholson & Grant.
And a new club, city, environment, style of play etc. to adapt to for not only those six, but also Ehmer, Baldwin & Westbrooke.
Am I excited by the business we’ve done on paper? Yes. But we have at least 9/10 players in the squad who could very easily take 6 or so months to fully adjust and settle into being a regular EFL player.
Let’s cut the lads some slack and stay patient if we don’t come firing out the blocks in September.

I’m optimistic for a good season barring any long term injuries but also remembering the ‘jaw dropping’ signings Bury made three seasons ago and what happened to them. Opening odds for me for a top six place would be around 10/1.

Doesn’t history show that it’s better to make a late dash for the play offs (like us in 2007) carrying the momentum with you rather to be sat there the whole season? I’ll take that again!

Our transfer windows are always the stuff of Gaschat fact. Players who nobody has seen play are talked up to buggery. In fact this is our best transfer window since the last transfer window, which was the best until the last one before that. The hyperbole is so intense that “this is the best window ever!” has become something of an understatement and a sign of a lack of confidence!. You’d think we would be premier league by now with the constant “quality” we keep signing every window. But we aren’t. We’re still league one, and have been for some time, which leads me to suspect that like the previous times we have signed an average bunch of players who might surprise us by combining well as a team and winning some games, but mid-table will be about right considering the spending power of the teams we are competing against and, crucially, we have a manager who has shown a worrying propensity not to know his arse from his elbow. No doubt I’ll get flamed for this but it’s based on endless hype over the last few years when the best we have finished is mid table. I also recall the likes of Bennett, Nichols, Sam Mathews etc etc being chronically hyped up. To be fair, the one player people did seem to get right was Payne- I don’t recall much excitement about him so I’ll give the forum that one

I'm really happy with our signings so far but it remains to be seen whether they perform better than last seasons squad:
GK - No Change
RB - No Change
LB Lost Holmes-Dennis
CB Lost Craig, Menayese & Davies (Long Term Injury) Added Baldwin & Ehmer
CM Lost Clarke, Sercombe & Russe Added Grant, Westbrooke & Nicholson
ST Lost Nichols & Reilly Added Ayunga
We've also lost Blackman, Ginnelly, Mithcell-Lawson and Abraham from the squad that finished last season.
They look like good signings and I am optimistic but only time will tell if they're significantly better than the players they're replacing.
To have a real shot at promotion I think we need to keep JCH and make a couple more quality additions. Do that and I think we have an excellent chance.

There could well be (at the minute) 5 new players in the starting 11 - Westbrooke, Ehmer, Baldwin, Grant and Nicholson. The players have quality that's what is exciting us all but will they click straightaway ? I reckon we can build towards promotion for the season after. Our successful teams in the past had a big nucleus who had played dozens of games together before winning promotion - Megson's 74, Francis' 90 and Trollope 07. Only DC's winners were largely new together.
