Because, as Hamer found out, ask any questions and you're frozen out. You'd also have to look at the backgrounds of the people on the board, Wael's mate, a bloke who's just got his first job in directorship, a bloke who seems utterly incapable of giving a straight answer to local media and a bloke who's been there for 3.5 years and has been promoted. In truth, I don't know they're yes men for a fact, but from what I've seen and heard from them, that's the conclusion I've drawn. Why haven’t the SC held their election yet to get the fans representation on the board? I believe Covid has had an impact on their ability to hold an AGM in 2020. Fair enough. Why has it taken so long for a suitable fan representative to be appointed? Granted the SC isn't blameless in this scenario, but the absence of a fan rep is still a major concern of mine. If it isn't a concern for you, and you're happy with how it's being ran, that's absolutely fine- it's your football club too, and ultimately no amount of back and forth on here will change anything.

I would say that we have just had the best transfer window that I can ever remember. We haven't started well, but I don't think you can blame recruitment for that - it's about taking time for the squad and manager(s) to gel. If you're disappointed with the players we have signed this summer I would love to know who you expected us to bring in? I don't see how you can possibly think this has been the best transfer window in recent memory, we're in the relegation zone and the majority of the players that signed have gone straight into the first team. As I said, the jury is out on the young players, but the senior players to a man have been awful, the buck stopped with Garner but the man who identified these signings doesn't deserve a promotion IMO. It's not my job to suggest players we should go and sign and it's a terribly boring conversation when fans do it, so with respect, I won't answer that one. I think there's a level of context required as well, I believe TW's job was to deliver a portfolio of players that fit a certain mould. "You want a young attacking midfielder, well here's 7 that fit what you're looking for", if the manager then turns round and signs 5 of them that's not TW fault. I think the decision to make TW DoF is to ensure we don't end up with the lack of balance we currently have, it puts him as head of the football operation meaning he will probably now have the final say.

If by yes men, you mean men who agree with the direction the club is going then i suppose you are correct, but is it not better to have every one pulling in the same positive direction than having constant complaining and moaning about every decision taken as is the case with ,(and i am sorry to stray into politics buts its the best analogy i can think of, ) Covid strategy where every one thinks they have a better plan instead of getting behind what we are trying to do? I have been wondering what happened to the s/c elections though, any one know? perhaps that subject needs a new thread?

A bit more clarity around the situation by the SC would be appreciated though.

I think you're right to provide that context, but ultimately the majority of signings haven't worked out. I hope you're right, and by giving him total control over the balance of the squad won't see us as bad as we currently are. I hope the appointment works out, obviously, but the reasons behind it aren't clear and aren't strong enough for me to be satisfied with it, in my humble opinion.

3) it really is quite simple, I'm reserving judgement on the younger players and have, after watching every minute of every game, come to the quite reasonable conclusion the senior players (bar the 3 mentioned) have been a failure so far this season and for every other season since his arrival. Hanlan, Ehmer, Grant are all failures already? I'll admit, we haven't seen the best of Westbrooke or Oztumer yet, but they arrived with VERY high expectations and were widely considered quality signings. I also don't think they've been bad, they just haven't lived up to the expectations and they are definitely the type of players hamstrung by the type of football we have been playing. Also, with the greatest respect to him, what has Ogogo done to get on the good list?

1) Yeah, he should have cleared all the debts and then stacked the board with people who were saying he would never clear the debts. "He also now holds voting rights deciding on the future of the football club."2) Do you know how 'voting rights' on the board works? "The jury is still out on the young signings, ... every other signing has taken us backwards."3)So is the jury out or you've already decided? 1) putting a point in my mouth I haven't made is a weak argument, and only serves to make you look a bit silly. 2) yes, I do, and with Wael being the majority shareholder Widdrington's say will be symbolic, but it's what it's symbolic of that I don't like. 3) it really is quite simple, I'm reserving judgement on the younger players and have, after watching every minute of every game, come to the quite reasonable conclusion the senior players (bar the 3 mentioned) have been a failure so far this season and for every other season since his arrival. 1) Wasn't suggesting you were actually saying that, I was just pointing out the way the SC were sniping at him for ages, the way the most negative fans were sniping at him for ages, and Wael clears the debt, proves them wrong, and then people whine that he's got a board with the people who actually supported him. And people who supported him need not be 'yes-men' they could just be positive supportive people, or simply people who were astute enough to realise he wouldn't sell the Mem and f**k off. Slagging them off as yes-men, and presumably therefore wanting them replaced with 'no-men' seems like a mealy-mouthed complaint considering all the bullshit his detractors have come out with.

Ehmer has been awful, all the defenders have been. Grant hasn't improved us, hasn't yet proven to be an upgrade on what Ogogo brought to us, but again, there are signs of life there, but we're where we are for a reason and his position is important to what Garner tried to do. Think the arrival of Abs and JCH in the January kept us in the division, so I'd say it was a successful transfer. Whether he's any good now, is a different conversation, but he did what he was brought here to do.

Quite why a head of recruitment who has failed quite spectacularly in every window bar January with Coughlan, has only picked up 3 successful signings in the time he's been here (two of which are no longer with the club) is cause for celebration is beyond me. The jury is still out on the young signings, granted, but only Daly has come in and had any type of positive impact. JCH, Abs and Jaakkola are the only senior players he's been responsible for signing that have improved us from where we were already at, every other signing has taken us backwards. He also now holds voting rights deciding on the future of the football club. Managers get sacked for the results of bad recruitment, and he's been promoted. It does not sit well with me at all; Wael clearing the debt and surrounding himself with yes-men (Gorringe aside, he's been a tremendous success) means that there is no scrutiny or accountability for the decisions he's making. You could make an argument Tom Gorringe is the only successful hire away from the playing staff Wael has made, having been here since 2016. This is made all the more concerning by the lack of fan representation on the board and a terrible local press who, instead of using his access to the board to really question the future of the football club in 2020, decided to play out the remainder of the season on Football Manager. The clearing of the debt is obviously a huge net positive, but I think the recruitment in general since Wael came to the football club has been absolutely dire. I'm just going to make this point: Why would someone with a controlling share need to surround himself with yes men? Seeing that he doesn't need anybody to agree with him, and in that vein, wouldn't if have been easier to not appoint board members at all..

I'm obviously eternally grateful he cleared the debt and has funded the football club through 2020. 2) It's both.

Again, I think signings haven't worked out thus far because of the imbalance in the side. We seem to have put together a Premier League B Team beyond the defence. I think TW worked well with GC to build a side that was full of workers, well organised and believed in the cause. With BG we've given the final say to a bloke that this time last year had never managed a senior football match in his life. Lessons have to be learned from this complete mess because, we have quite a few players on long term contracts that will probably do nothing long term for the club. I feel there's plenty of scope for quite a few to become decent signings but that's probably for 6 months down the line.

The older, established pros who have gone into the team have mostly been poor since TW's arrival. The younger players who are either subs, U23s or float between the first team and Unders don't deserve to be judged yet. How was that?

Ok so let me remind you of the players we signed before the summer Widdrington joined to which he had no input...Sam Matthews, Ed Upson, Alex Rodman, Gavin Reilly, THD, Stefan Payne, Deon Moore... You could argue that none of those players were good enough really, Upson no longer is and how he is being picked still I dont know. Rodman is well past L1 level, the rest of them arent playing in this league or have retired.
This first window he brings in JCH and ABS of which we make over a million in profit. Hamstrung by the previous recruitment policy and ridiculouly long contracts to poor players like Upson, Mensah, Nichols and Bennett on extravegant wages, it has hamstrung the recruitment policy for nearly 2 seasons. DC spent up to his departure £2.6m in the playing budget, the highest in our history. TW brief was to lower that budget and increase quality as well as set up the conveyor belt of recruitment of young talent. His first summer window brought in Jakkola, Hare, Leahy, Davies, Little all players who improved the team massively under Coughlan. When Jakkola got injured he brought in another brilliant goalie in Jamal Blackman who is playing champonship football this year. Recruitment this summer again has been positive, Grant is certainly no worse that Ollie Clarke, Hanlan has been a good replacement for JCH, Daly has scored more than Nichols has already, Westbrooke a definate upgrade on Sercombe, I could go on... But what has let it down is the poor management of the squad, something they have looked to address, whether you agree with the appointment of Tisdale or not. I think you are being overly dramatic and misunderstand the actual position of Tommy being a director. Hes a non shareholding board director, so he has no influence on what Wael actually decides to do, he is the majority shareholder, all Tommy can do is recommend his opinion to Wael. Ultimately, Wael has the final say on what happens and can vote Tommy off the board as quickly as he installed him onto it. The lack of fan representation is a concern, but that is down to the SC. I have put my name forward as a candidate to be the fans director, but we have heard nothing as to what is actually happening. I chased them some months ago and asked why they couldnt do the annual meeting via Zoom, so we could at least get the candidate approved and appointed at club level, but I was told that the SC were not in favour as some of the members did not have access and they wanted to get together in a room. I said at the time that they wouldnt achieve that this side of 2021 and that it should be done sooner rather than later. I think also David Thomas the secretary has also been in hospital in the last month, I remember Keith Brookman saying something on the radio the other week so I hope that was nothing serious and hes making a good recovery.

How do you know the discussions at board level and that the people involved are yes men? Why haven’t the SC had their election yet? Because, as Hamer found out, ask any questions and you're frozen out. You'd also have to look at the backgrounds of the people on the board, Wael's mate, a bloke who's just got his first job in directorship, a bloke who seems utterly incapable of giving a straight answer to local media and a bloke who's been there for 3.5 years and has been promoted. In truth, I don't know they're yes men for a fact, but from what I've seen and heard from them, that's the conclusion I've drawn. I think youll find that Hamer tried to plan a coup d'etat which backfired spectacularly and that was why he was frozen out, which cumlinated in Masters resignation and the self indulgent epititah of public concern which was supported by the SC and their own misinformation that they then put into the public domain. A few months later, all which Masters and the SC threw at Wael was thrown right back at them when Wael cancelled the debt. Since then they have all gone very quiet... Another thing is that you cant be a yes man at director level, because you are responsible for the very things that us fans call them to account for, things like who's in charge of the first team, the players that are signed and why they are spending the money that they do and so forth...

Massively selective there. Wasn’t it Widdrington who brought Timmy Abraham to the club, who he had been tracking for a while and who turned out not to even look like a footballer? Ginnelly, JML etc and surely Widdrington was here when we signed Payne because it was DC that brought him (Widdrington) to the club wasn’t it? In fact, yes he was here then because we were joking about the Coventry connection because we were in for Adebayo or whatever his name was who left Walsall for Coventry and DC ended up with Stefan Payne- so we have Widdrington to thank for that waste of money? So what you’ve done here is move Widdringtons start date forward by a season which makes him look better but still omitted some signings. So you criticise DC for the money he spent when some of that would have been spent on Widdrington’s watch. So overall our signings while he has been here have been hit and miss, apart from JCH no-one has bettered themselves when they have left and the current batch look too under-powered for this level although one presumes their contract lengths mean we are stuck with them and so they will have plenty of time to prove me wrong.

I didn’t include the loan players as the reply focused on the recruitment of permanent signings. I spoke to TW some months back and he didn’t approve of the Payne signing and in a subsequent interview after DC left when he was being asked about players that have joined he said that sometimes we agree on a player and sometimes we don’t. I took that as reference to Payne. Given that TW has also stated how he recruits a player, often 2-3 windows in advance so the can compline proper diligence on them, I’m not sure how you can peg Payne on him tbh. I agree looking at the loans, Ginelly and Abrahams were disappointing although I thought Smith and JML looked handy at the time. If you’re asking any DOF or manager for a 100% great signing rate then you’re never going to find one. But if you look at the type of footballers we have at the club now compared to what we did have when he joined then you would be hard pressed to say the squad is the same or worse. Especially when you consider the league restriction for playing budget is now capped at £2.5m which has to include agents fees, tax, image rights, wages both basic and bonus salaries.

Interesting how the Plymouth Manager, highly regarded on here by several posters has had Timmy Abraham on loan for this season. Obviously does not know he isn't a footballer!

With respect he wasn’t new to the job of head of recruitment so I’m not sure why it would take him a season to be effective, especially considering the guy we were going to sign instead of Payne ended up at the club Widdrington had just left.
But yeah, I suppose if we narrow the parameters to the point where we don’t count loan signings and all this season’s signings were Garner’s (as most seem to be doing) then he looks like a very good head of recruitment indeed. I wonder why no bigger clubs like Peterborough have tried to come in and poach him off us, in fact.
