Bristol Rovers CEO, Martyn Starnes, gives his reaction to today's news that confirmed Bristol will enter Tier 3 restrictions once the national lockdown concludes. The news means that Rovers are unable to host fans at home games at the Mem, which will be reviewed once the region enters a lower tier of COVID-19 restrictions. The Rovers CEO said, “We are naturally disappointed by today’s news, with Bristol placed in Tier 3 restrictions to combat the spread of Coronavirus, meaning that we’re unable to welcome back supporters at this stage. “Over the past few months, we have been working hard on a fair and transparent plan, to allow the safe return of fans to matches at the Mem. We are pressing the authorities to allow us to at least accommodate all of our season ticket holders as soon as possible but it’s almost certain we will need to stage one or more “test” events at a lower capacity before that will be permitted. "As we get towards a point in time where restrictions are eased in the Bristol area, we will be issuing guidance to Season Ticket holders and the wider fanbase on the protocol and procedures that will be placed upon us for home fixtures. "However, supporters can expect a number of changes to the usual match day routines in order to enjoy live football once again in accordance with health and safety regulations. These changes are likely to include a move to tickets being issued via the ‘Print at Home’ option and fans having to agree to a Code of Conduct before entering the ground as well as face masks having to be worn. "In the meantime, I ask all supporters to continue following the Government’s COVID-19 guidelines, to help prevent the spread of this awful disease.” www.bristolrovers.co.uk/news/2020/november/martyn-starnes-lockdown-restrictions/

No clubs will have 4000 fans as the only three places that got put in tier 1 we're Scilly Isles, Cornwall and Isle of Wight.
Gloucestershire made tier 2 ...shame UWE never happened

I've set up some goal posts in the field opposite my house. As Frome Seems to be in Tier 2, I might invite the club to come and play here - we can accommodate up to 1,000 fans watching from the field next door.
PS: Mrs Slam has just got a copy of the "Big Jock recipe Manual" and is confident of knocking out about 500 Pasties per game on a pre-order basis

Makes sense when you see that N Somerset is 3 as well...although BANES did make 2. Can we go back to Twerton instead??

Why are we in their 3? I will tell you why. In the Bristol area, we have two universities, Bristol and UWE. The occupants of these seats of learning think the rules don't apply to them so they carry on in their usual way along with the people of all ages who wandered around Bristol a few weeks ago with no masks and no social distances demonstrating about a lockdown. The same applies to the 500 to 700 nutters who attended an illegal race in Yate and then disappeared into the rest of this area. If this took place in France the fire hoses would move 'em. The majority are now suffering for the " the rules don't apply to me" brigade

Disappointing for younger supporters but being old and high risk my return to the Mem will have to wait for the vaccine.

A lot of uni students live close together in shared accommodation or student halls.

Look at London, they have an underground, better public transport, but have 0 universities - hence why they're in tier 2. Bloody students, its all their fault

The majority are now suffering for the " the rules don't apply to me" brigade It's more that they've been under house arrest. Halls have been extremely intrusive in logging in/out and the students are feeling as though they have extra scrutiny on them simply because of their living conditions. When you treat people like animals, don't be surprised when they start flinging sh**. That is akin to a block of flats having security guards not letting you out of the building, or a council officer stood outside your front door pressuring you every time you want to step outside. I have many student friends and actually most of them have been at home since April. There is around ~10% of the student population who actually remained in Bristol over the whole summer. Those that stayed have been under psueudo-house arrest. As with anything, the students you have seen in the news have been a tiny, tiny fraction of the student population in this city. Much the same as any other person outside for 1 hour and 1 minute, they've been derided and scapegoated. Let's not play the blame game, just because a small population are easy to scapegoat

Much better than the response I was considering, which on reflection would not have been polite!
